All-American UL-L gridder, coach
PLAQUEMINE – Services for three-year All-American UL-L football player “Coach” Thomas Bickham, Jr. will be Tuesday. He died May 16 at age 93.
He was recruited by colleges from Michigan to LSU and chose to play at then-Southwestern in Lafayette. After his college career, he was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles of the NFL at the same time World War II broke out. He joined the 8th Army Air Corps, flying 25 bombing missions over Europe, being shot down twice, and being twice awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.
After the war he helped started the McNeese State football program and won the National Junior College Championship as a boxing coach. He was a coach and supervisor in the Plaquemines Parish school system and after retirement was a School Board member for more than 20 years.
Survivors include five children.

Acadian author, composer
MONTEGUT – Services for Acadian heritage author and composer Sherwin “Chabbie” Guidry will be Tuesday. He died May 16 in Baton Rogue at age 94.
He won a number of awards for contributions to the preservation of the Acadian heritage history, was the author of four books on the subject and wrote many of the songs played by his Dixieland band Chabbie and the Dixie Six. He was also a a justice of the peace for 15 years.
Survivors include his wife Lee and two daughters.
Arrangements are by Resthaven, Baton Rouge.
Retired LSU counselor
BATON ROUGE – Services for retired LSU counselor Dorothy “Dottie” Walters will be Tuesday. She died May 16 at age 90.
She retired as a counselor in the LSU College of Business Administration. She was also advisor to the business fraternity Delta Sigma Pi.
Survivors include a son and a daughter.
