ULL All-American
LULING – Services are Monday for ULL baskebhall All-American and Avondale Shipyard executive Dean Church. He died May 27 at age 71.
He was named an All-American player after the 1963-64 season, the first such designation for a ULL player and the first to be named All-American twice. He still holds some ULL basketball records . He was one of five players in school history with his jersey retired. He was selected in the NBA draft by the Philadelphia 76ers and was a member of the Louisiana Basketball Hall of Fame and the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame. He retired as executive vice president and CEO of Avondale Shipyards.
Survivors include is wife Sally and three children.

Pest control pioneer
BATON ROUGE – Services for former Orkin executive Robert Couhig will be Saturday in St. Francisville. He died May 29 at age 97.
He developed the modern pest control industry in the South and at one time was manager of Orkin Pest Control in Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas. After leaving Orkin, he began Couhig Pestaway, which grew into one of the state’s largest pest control firms. He was a pioneer in the Felicianas tourism industry, opening one of the state’s first B&Bs with Asphodel Village.
Survivors include several children and step-children.

Former Chamber exec
ZACHARY – Services for former Chamber of Commerce executive Nell Perry are Saturday. She died May 28.
She was the Zachary Chamber’s first executive director, a post she held for 15 years.
Survivors include four children.
Arrangements are by Charlet.

Furniture dealer
ALEXANDRIA – Services for retired furniture store owner John “Wally” Pearson will be Saturday. He died May 28 at age 85.
He was long-time owner of Pearson Furniture.
Survivors include a son and a daughter.
Arrangements are by Hixson Bros.

Methodist minister
PINEVILLE – Services are Friday for retired Methodist minister Arthur Baker. He died May 28 at age 88.
He pastored for 38 years, serving many churches in the Louisiana United Methodist Conference. For 20 years he was president of the Pinecrest State School Parents’ Association.
Survivors include his wife Nancy and four children.
Arrangements are by Hixson Bros.
