Oilfield contractor
ABBEVILLE – Services for former UL Lafayette basketball player and oilfield contractor Roy Young, Sr. will be Thursday. He died June 22 at age 86.
He was a guard known as “Pepper” in his basketball career. He was manager of Vermilion Creamery for some time before entering the oil field business. He was president of Young-Tow, Roy Young Inc., and a real estate, insurance, concrete and trucking firms.
Survivors include four children.
Arrangements are by Vincent.

Water treatment expert
ZACHARY – Services for water treatment expert Luke Fontenot will be June 25. He died June 20 at age 83.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, in which he was a member of the underwater demolition services (frogman). He was a pioneer in the use of chemicals in water treatment for public and commercial use. He sold his company Pearl River Chemical Corp. to Atlantic Richfield.
Survivors include his wife Dolores and four children.

Former Woman of Year
WEST MONROE – Services for former Louisiana Woman of the Year Carol Rogers will be June 25. She died June 21 at age 70.
She was in the mobile home and property and casualty insurance business for years. In 2011 she was named Woman of the Year by the National Association of Professional Women.
Survivors include her husband Richard and three daughters.
Arrangements are by Mulhearn.

Teacher
SHREVEPORT – Services for long-time educator Mary McClanahan will be June 26. She died June 21.
She was an English and psychology teacher at C.E. Byrd High for many years. After retirement, she was a volunteer with Literacy Volunteers of America.
Survivors include a son and a daughter.

Medical technologist
NATCHEZ, Miss. – Services for medical technologist and college instructor Dorris Ware are June 24. She died June 21 at age 92.
She was a U.S. Army WAC veteran of World War II. She retired from the pathology department of Southern Baptist Hospital, New Orleans after 30 years. She held the position of chief administrative technologist and director of the School of Medical Technology. She was on the faculty of Loyola University and LSU Medical Center as a clinical instructor.
