Educator, Guard officer
KENNER – Services for retired educator and National Guard colonel Camile Chaisson, Jr. will be June 26. He died June 23 at age 83.
He was a teacher and principal for more than 30 years in Lafourche and St. Charles parishes. He was with the National Guard for 31 years.
Survivors include his wire Marjorie and a son.
Arrangements are by Thibodaux, Thibodaux.
Engineer, Reserves officer
METAIRIE – Services for retired Avondale electrical engineer and U.S. Army Reserves colonel Eugene Gonzales were private. He died June 14.
He was with Avondale Shipyards for 30 years, retiring as electrical superintendent.
Survivors include his wife Margaret and two daughters.
Retired teacher
BATON ROUGE – Services for long-time teacher Katie Young will be June 28. She died June 15 at age 75.
She began her career teaching English at Church Point High, then moved to Broadmoor High in Baton Rouge, where she was recognized as as parish teacher of the year and was runnerup state teacher of the year. She was the first guidance counselor at the then-new Tara High, then moved to Baton Rouge High Magnet School. For 10 years she was State English supervisor at the La. Dept. of Education.
Survivors include a daughter.
