Ex-LSU gridder, petroleum product exec
BAKER – Services for former LSU football player and petroleum product handling expert Reginald “Tommy” Brown, Jr. will be Sept. 6. He died Aug. 25 at age 83.
He was an all-state football and basketball player at Baker High and was a tight end on the LSU football teams of 1949, 50 and 51. He played in the 1950 Sugar Bowl game. He founded Brown-Eagle Corporation, specializing in product handling for chemical plants and refineries. Headquartered in Baton Rouge, it has offices in several states.
Survivors include four sons.

Furniture executive
ALEXANDRIA – Services for furniture executive Sammy Dunbar will be Sept. 6. He died Aug. 31 at age 82.
He was a veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Tulane University Hall of Fame.
He was treasurer, then vice president, then president and board chairman of Clark-Dunbar Furniture. He was former chairman of the board of the National Home Furnishings International Association. He was a director of Guaranty Bank and city director of Hibernia National Bank and president of Cotten Land Corp. for 28 ydears.
Survivors include three children.

Former assessor
ZACHARY – Services for former assessor and Silliman Institute founder Carl Bunch will be Sept. 4. He died Sept. 1 at age 86.
He was an 82nd Airborne veteran of the Korean War, was a sheriff’s deputy for 20 years and assessor from 1977 to 1997. He helped buy and start Silliman Institute and served on its board for 17 years. He was also on the board of Landmark Bank.
Survivors include his wife Betty and five children.

Dentist
MANDEVILLE – Services for long-time dentist and dental educator Dr. Francis Abadie will be Sept. 4. He died Sept. 1 at age 86.
He was a veteran of the Korean War and practiced dentistry in New Orleans for 33 years. He then took a post with the LSU School of Dentistry, where he started the Advanced Education Program in General Dentistry. He served on the Louisiana State Board of Dentistry. He retired from LSU ad Emeritus Professor.
Survivors include his wife Delort and several children.
Arrangements are by Lake Lawn.

Jeweler
NEW ROADS – Services for long-time jeweler Avit Hebert will be Sept. 3. He died Aug. 28 at age 77.
He was a football player while enrolled at Millsaps College and managed Hebert’s Jewelry for many years. He was former treasurer and president of the Louisiana Retail Jewelers Association.
Survivors include three children.
Arrangements are by Niland’s.

Southern professor
BATON ROUGE – Services for Buffalo Solider and long-time Southern University economics professor Dr. Frederick Temple will be Sept. 5. He died Aug. 29 at age 92.
He was a veteran of World War II African-American units which fought in North Africa and Italy. He began teaching at Southern in 1950, remaining on the active faulty until 1990.
Survivors include a son and a daughter.
Arrangements are by Rabenhorst.

Dentist
METAIRIE – Services for 40-year dentist and dental educator Dr. William Schmidt will be Sept. 5. He died Aug. 30 at age 67.
He was a baseball player at Loyola University. He was former president of the New Orleans Dental Association and former chairman of the State Board of Dentistry Peer Review Committee. After retiring, he became a full-time Clinical Assistant Professor at LSU School of Dentistry.
Survivors include several children.
Arrangements are by Greenwood.
