Financial columnist
ALEXANDRIA – Services for syndicated financial columnist Robert Upton will be Sept. 13. He died Sept. 7 at age 79.
His column “Financial Focus” was published for more than 20 years in more than 400 newspapers. He was a financial advisor with AG Edwards & Sons, Edward D. Jones & Company (a limited partner) and the National Association of Security Dealers.
Survivors include his wife Connie, three sons and a daughter.
Arrangements are by John Kramer & Son.
Math professor
BATON ROUGE – Services for retired LSU math professor Dr. Heron Collins will be Sept. 12. He died Sept. 9 at age 91.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a professor at LSU for 35 years, publishing numerous papers and mentoring Ph.D. candidates.
Survivors include his wife Sarah and three children.
Catholic educator
OPELOUSAS – Services for retired educator Sr. Dr. Mary Hill (Anna May) will be Sept. 12. She died Sept. 8 at age 90.
She entered the Congregation of the Marianites of Holy Cross in 1941. She served as a teacher or principal at schools in New Orleans, Morgan City, Ville Platte, Franklin and Port Allen. She also served as New Orleans Archdiocesan Educational Supervisor and as a professor at Our Lady of Holy Cross College.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are by Wilbert.
Taxidermist
DEVILLE – Services for long-time taxidermist Bradford “Penny” Smith will be Sept. 12. He died Sept. 10 at age 67.
He was a widely-known taxidermist for almost 40 years.
Survivors include his wife Patricia, four sons and a daughter.
Arrangements are by Hixson Bros., Pineville.
