ULL basketball legend
ST. ROSE – Arrangements are pending for UL-Lafayette basketball legend Roy Ebron. He died Sept. 28 at age 63.
He played for the Ragin’ Cajuns in the basketball heyday of the early 1970’s, finishing as the school’s all-time leading rebounder. He was an honorable mention All-American. He was a member of the Louisiana Basketball Hall of Fame. He played for the ABA’s Utah Start and was drafted by the NBA’s New York Knicks and later played in Europe.

Former city councilman, aviator
NEW ROADS – Services for former city councilman and retired Air Force colonel John “Charlie” Bonnette will be Oct. 4. He died Sept. 30 at age 79.
He logged more than 6,300 flight hours as a pilot in both the KC-135 and the B-52 during his Air Force career. He was a former LSU baseball player and a member of the Cadets of the Old War Skule Hall of Honor. He was a former City Council member and mayor pro temp and active on a number of boards and commissions.
Survivors include his wife Magda and three children.
Arrangements are by Niland’s.

Civic leader
BATON ROUGE – Services are Oct. 4 for Mary Mayfield, the first woman elected a voting member of the Woman’s Hospital Foundation. She died Sept. 23 at age 96.
She also served 30 years on the Board of Commissioners of Hospital Service District No. 3.
Survivors include three children.
Arrangements are by Rabenhorst.
