Former newspaper owner
PINEVILLE – Services for journalist and former weekly newspaper owner Ruth Gabour will be Dec. 17. She died Dec. 14 at age 89.
She was an award-winning reporter, poet, essayist, and journalist. Her works appeared in publications such as Redbook Magazine and Readers’ Digest, with her final book, Fannie and Udie, being published last year.
She and her husband Jimmie became owners of the Pineville News in the 1950s and 60s. She served as the editor while her husband was publisher. After retiring from the newspaper business, she served as the legislative aide for State Senator Cecil Blair and later worked at Louisiana DOTD.
She is also survived by six children.

Real estate developer
BOSSIER CITY – Services for former Louisiana Real Estate Commission member Wesley “Big West” Burdine will be Dec. 17. He died at age 86.
He owned and operated Burdine and Associates realty-development company. He was former president of the Chamber of Commerce, the Shreveport-Bossier Board of Realtors and member of the Bossier Police Jury.
Survivors include two children.
Arrangements are by Boone.
