Missions minister
HAMMOND – Services are Jan. 17 for Southern Baptist missions official the Rev. John Gilbert. He died Jan. 11 at age 92.
He was a U.S. Navy aviation veteran of World War I and the Korean War. Rev. Gilbert served over 65 years in the gospel ministry. He was pastor at numerous churches in Mississippi, Louisiana and North Carolina, and served as Director of Associational Missions for Southern Baptists in New Orleans, Shreveport and the Florida Parishes. In 1982 he was recognized by the Southern Baptist Home Mission Board as the Outstanding Director of Missions in the Eastern half of the United States. Rev. Gilbert was recognized by his peers as an outstanding leader among Louisiana Baptists, starting churches, new ministries, and leading numerous volunteer mission trips.
Survivors include four children.

Olympics art director
NEW ORLEANS – Services for World’s Fair and Olympics art director Robert Whitney are pending. He died Jan. 9 at age 87.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He served as founding art director of Adirondack Life magazine and then became the art director for the 1980 Olympic Winter Games in Lake Placid, N.Y. and for the 1984 World’s Fair in New Orleans. He later consulted as a graphic designer and art director for a number of organizations, including Universal Studios and Ringling Brothers.
Survivors include two children.
Dietician
ALEXANDRIA – Services for retired hospital dietician Katherine Wilson will be Jan. 17. She died Jan. 14 at age 93.
She worked for the VA Medical Center before becoming chief dietician at Central State Hospital.
Survivors include her husband Al and a daughter.

Tire dealer
SHREVEPORT – Services for retired tire dealer Barney Moore will be Jan. 17. He died Jan. 15 at age 88.
He played college football at the University of Southern Mississippi and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was president of Moore’s Firestone/Goodyear, then the largest commercial tire dealer in the nation with more than 30 locations.
Survivors include his wife Doll and a daughter.
