Former ULM, Razorback band director
MONROE – Services for Director Emeritus of the School of Music at UL-Monroe Dr. Richard Worthington will be Monday. He died April 3.
He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was founder and conductor emeritus of the Monroe Symphony and former director of the University of Arkansas Razorback Marching and Concert bands. He was commander of the Monroe Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol, mission, instructor and check pilot. He was among pilots in the state forming Angel Flight and among those forming Pilots for Patients.
Survivors include his wife Nancy and three children.
Arrangements are by Mulhearn.
Former LSU graphics official
HAMMOND – Services for former LSU director of graphic services Curtis Simmons will be Wednesday. He died April 4 at age 90.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife Audrey, and several children and step-children.
Arrangements are by Resthaven, Baton Rouge.
Ex-Culture, Recreation, Tourism official
LAFAYETTE – Services for former deputy secretary of the state Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism Vivienne Fancis will be Tuesday. She died April 4 at age 96.
She was a former resident of Lake Charles and Baton Rogue. She was former president of the Calcasieu Parish School Board and former director of International Special Olympics of Baton Rogue.
Survivors include a son and four daughters.
Arrangements are by Delhomme.
Former Bell South official
GONZALES – Services for former Bell South official Brian Franks will be Monday in Baton Rouge. He died April 3 at age 87.
He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was former Bell South district manager in Lake Charles and was responsible for negotiating and implementing the initial 911 system for the Baton Rouge area.
Survivors include his wife Mildred and two daughters.
Arrangements are by Greenoaks.
Architect, painter
SHREVEPORT – Services for retired architect Thomas Pressly, Jr. will be Monday. He died at age 85.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War. During his 25-year private practice career he designed the San Antonio, Texas zoo and man homes, ranches and lake houses. He was recognized for his participation in the design of San Antonio’s Riverwalk. He was also a noted water colorist.
Survivors include his wife Emily, a son and two daughters.
Arrangements are by Osborn.
