Bengal softball duo named top NJCAA Div. II coaches

After a season in which they lead the LSU Eunice softball team to its second consecutive NJCAA National Championship, and the program’s third in four years, Lady Bengal head coach Andy Lee and assistant coach Haley McCall have been named the NFCA NJCAA Division II National Coaching Staff of the Year, announced by the NFCA.
Lee and McCall led the Lady Bengals to an 64-3 overall record, marking a new standard as the top winning percentage all-time in NJCAA Division II softball history with their .955 winning percentage.
The final record included going 29-0 at home in Eunice, 12-1 on the road and 23-2 at neutral sites this spring.
In addition to the National Championship, the Lady Bengals defeated Wallace State-Hanceville win the Gold crown at the NFCA’s Junior College Leadoff Classic this March in Columbus, Ga.
They capped off the year with three wins on the final day of the national tournament, including two victories over Jones County to capture the title.
LSU Eunice’s three National Championships are only behind Phoenix College (eight titles) for the most titles in NJCAA Division II history, and the two are the only programs to have won multiple national championships.
In six seasons at LSU Eunice, Lee has a 324-57 overall record, a 85 percent winning percentage, to go along with the program’s three National Championships and National Runners-Up finish (2012).
In his nine total seasons as a head coach in Eunice and Hinds Community College (2006-2008), he has won 416 games and has an overall winning percentage of 79 percent.
This year’s honor is the second time Lee and his staffs have been named the NFCA National Coaching Staff of the Year.
In her first season as an assistant coach, McCall earned her second National Championship after previously winning the title as a player on the Lady Bengals’ first championship team back in 2011, when she was also named MVP of the National Tournament and honored as an NJCAA All American.
