Bengals win 2-of-3 to open season
EUNICE - The fifth-ranked LSU Eunice Bengals split a double header Saturday with North Lake College.
The Blazers exploded for five runs in the top of the 10th inning to seal a 10-5 win, while the Bengals responded with a 13-0 win in the finale.
After three scoreless innings, North Lake's Jacob Columbo singled to right and scored during a double play to give the Blazers a 1-0 lead.
North Lake added another run in the top of the fifth when James Weeks doubled to led and later scored on a sacrifice from Cedrick Robertson.
The Blazers pushed ahead 3-0 in the top of the sixth when Jose Blanco doubled to left with two outs and scored on a single by designated hitter Michael Driskill.
The Bengals closed the gap to 3-2 in the bottom of the frame, begun when Jesse Lee advanced on a dropped third strike and advanced on a wild throw.
Mark Fontenot and Jordan Romero were both hit by pitches with two outs to keep the inning alive.
Trey Caswell singled to third to plate Fontenot and Romero as the Bengals battled to close the Blazer margin.
LSU Eunice tied the game in the bottom of the seventh when Brennan Bozeman singled, advanced on a wild pitch and scored on Steven Sensley's single to left center field.
North Lake quickly retook the lead with two runs in the top of the eighth inning.
Easton Johnson singled, advanced on the missed catch and scored on a wild pitch. Bryce Helmcamp walked and scored on Colton Hamilton's single.
The Bengals answered to tie the game with two runs in the bottom of the eighth, begun when Cade Stone doubled with one out after Nick Coomes opened the inning with a walk.
Bozeman was hit by a pitch and Madison Nickens followed with a double to score Coomes but Stone was tagged out at the plate.
Lee then singled to score Bozeman as the Bengals tied the game, 5-5.
After neither team scored in the ninth inning, North Lake used the extra three outs to steal the win.
Driskell singled, advanced on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a single to center by C.J. Bills.
Weeks walked and scored on a hit by Johnson, while Green hit a three-run home run to give the Blazers a 10-5 advantage.
The Bengals threatened in the bottom of the inning but failed to score.
Bozeman went 2-for-5 with two runs scored, while Sensley went 2-for-5 with two RBI.
Nickens and Lee both went 1-for-6 with a RBI, while Joe Trahan went 1-for-4.
Caswell went 1-for-5 with two RBI as team mate Stone went 2-for-5.
Fontenot and Coones both went 1-for-1 with a run scored.
Sam Walley earned the win as he went four scoreless innings with seven strikeouts, three walks and one hit.
Hayden Guidry was handed the loss as he allowed five runs on four hits with two walks and a strikeout.
Bengal starter Ben Braymer went four innings and allowed one run on three hits with 10 strikeouts and a walk.
LSU Eunice 13, North Lake 0
The seven-inning finale of the doubleheader was all LSU Eunice as the Bengals exploded for 13 runs on 11 hits, while holding the Blazers to just three hits.
The Bengals jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the bottom of the first and never looked back.
Bozeman singled and scored when Nickens tripled to right field. Nickens then scored on a wild pitch, while Sensley and Turner Francis both walked to keep the surge alive. Trahan singled and Romero followed with a hit to center to plate Sensley and Francis.
Trahan would score on a wild pitch, while Stone singled to score Romero to push the Bengals ahead, 6-0.
LSU Eunice added two more runs in the bottom of the third, begun when Trahan reached on a walk and Stone later reached on a dropped ball with two outs to allow Trahan to score.
Bozeman then singled to score Stone and the Bengals led, 8-0.
LSU Eunice chipped in another run in the bottom of the fourth when pinch hitter David LaFleur walked as Sensley singled and stole second base. Francis grounded out to short, but LaFleur scored on the play.
The Bengals exploded for four runs in the bottom of the fifth to seal the win.

Janson Bourque walked, LaFleur was hit by a pitch and Sensley drew a base-on-balls to load the bases.
Francis singled to left to plate Bourque, as Will Watson followed with a double to push across LaFleur and Sensley for a 13-0 lead.
Bozeman went 2-for-5 with a RBI and run scored. Nickens went 1-for-3 with a RBI and a run scored. Sensley went 1-for-3 with two runs scored and two walks. Trahan went 1-for-1 with a walk and two runs scored.
Francis went 1-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored and a walk.
Bourque went 1-for-1 with a run scored, while Fontenot went 1-for-1 with a walk and a run scored.
Watson went 1-for-2 with two RBI, while Romero went 1-for-3 with two RBI and a walk and a run scored.
Stone went 1-for-2 with two RBI and a run scored.
The Bengals will play in the Tournament of Champions at San Jacinto, beginning at 9 a.m. Friday against New Mexico Junior College. LSU Eunice will also play Pensacola State College at 3 p.m. Friday.
The Bengals will take on Blinn College at Skeeters Park in Sugarland at 9 a.m. on Saturday before facing Howard College at Noon on Sunday.
