A field of dreams continues for Bengal sophomores

Over a dozen Bengal sophomores will continue their baseball careers a four-year schools, including four LSU Eunice players who are heading to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
“It is bittersweet seeing our players move on,” LSUE head coach Jeff Willis said. “You spend countless hours with the players over a two year period and develop very close relationships and then it is time for them to move on.
“But as a coach you know that it is their dream, to continue playing, and seeing them achieve that dream is one of the greatest feelings you get out of coaching.”
Outfielder Derek Herrington (Minden), infielder Stefan Trosclair (Sulphur) as well as pitchers Jevin Huval (Teurlings Catholic) and Will Bacon (Parkview Baptist) will all wear Ragin’ Cajuns across their chest next season.
Herrington hit .348 with 48 RBI, three home runs, four triples, 12 doubles and 36 walks in his sophomore season.
Selected as a first team NJCAA Div. II All-American, Trosclair led the team with a .409 batting average, nine home runs and 71 RBI. He also had 21 doubles and 30 walks.
Huval went 4-2 as a sophomore with a 2.40 ERA. He recorded 32 strikeouts and 19 walks over 30 innings pitched.
Bacon had a 2-0 record with a 6.00 ERA with 21 strikeouts and 18 walks in 27 innings pitched coming off Tommy John surgery.
Right-handed pitcher Ryan Domingue (Vermilion Catholic) is leaving the state for McPherson College, an NAIA program in Kansas.
Domingue led the Bengals with a 2.08 ERA with a 5-0 record. He had 21 strikeouts, seven walks and allowed just 24 hits in 30.1 innings pitched.
Ray Veit (Archbishop Rummel) is heading to the University of New Orleans.
The Bengal infielder hit .290 with 29 RBI, eight doubles and 16 walks this past season.
Kyle St. Pierre (Flower Mound) will continue his playing time at the University of South Alabama in Mobile.
St. Pierre hit. 288 with 44 RBI, 11 doubles, 23 walks and 14 hitbatsmen.
Pitcher Colby Green (Northside) is going to Jackson State as he had six strikeouts, five walks and allowed 13 earned runs in 11 innings pitched.
Pitcher O. J. Latin (Pearland) is heading to Prairie View A&M after seeing limited action his sophomore season.
He had a 3.00 ERA with 14 strikeouts, 13 walks in 12 innings pitched.
All-American pitcher Chad Reeves (Sterlington) was heading Delta State University, but was drafted by the Milwalkee Brewers and signed his professional baseball contract.
Reeves had a 11-1 record with a 2.62 ERA, 95 strikeouts, 36 walks and just 26 earned runs in 89.1 innings pitched.
Tyler Chapman (Iowa) and Ben LeBlanc (Jewel Sumner) are still undecided about which schools they will head to, but both have several options.
Former Bengal Bobby Schuman (LaJolla) has signed with Cal State - Northridge after leaving LSUE last fall.
“We want them to move on when they are finished with us,” Willis said. “But when they head to their next school, we are always checking on how they are doing.
“It is exciting to hear our program mentioned when our former players are playing on TV and they say LSU Eunice.
“It is great for our school and the entire Eunice community.”
