LSUE takes two from BRCC

The LSU Eunice baseball team saw starting pitcher Chad Reeves toss eight innings of three-hit baseball as the Bengals grabbed a 7-0 victory over visiting Baton Rouge Community College on Saturday afternoon.
Reeves’ performance added to his national-best win total as he recorded victory No. 9 on the season while striking out eight batters, holding Baton Rouge (15-27) at bay while the Bengals (27-7) offense collected nine hits and 10 walks in the contest.
Brennan Bozeman and Madison Nickens each finished 2-for-5 at the plate, as Madison Nickens collected two RBIs and Bozeman drive home a run of his own. Gabe Roberts (RBI), Stefan Trosclair, Mason Nickens, Jordan Romero and Derek Herrington each tallied one hit, while Kyle St. Pierre (0-4) finished with two RBIs and Tyler Chapman (0-0, 3 walks) also notched an RBI.
The Bengals jumped on the board in the second inning when Chapman walked and later scored on Roberts’ sacrifice fly before a four-run fourth frame that saw Madison Nickens’ tally a two-run single, St. Pierre draw a bases loaded walk and Chapman bring home a run with a sacrifice fly of his own.
In the fifth inning, Herrington reached on a two-out single before stealing second and scoring on Bozeman’s RBI single to right field. Trosclair walked in the eighth inning before swiping second and third base and scored on an RBI groundout from St. Pierre.

The LSU Eunice baseball team opened its three-game weekend series against regional rival Baton Rouge Community College with a 5-2 victory on the road Friday night despite being outhit by the hosts and leaving 12 men on base in the game.
The Bengals (26-7) collected 10 hits to Baton Rouge’s (15-26( 12 hits, but saw Mason Nickens lead the way with a three-hit night, driving home two RBI, as Stefan Trosclair and Jordan Romero (double) each notched two hits and an RBI apiece. Brennan Bozeman (1-5), Kyle St. Pierre (1-3, 2 walks) and Derek Herrington (1-3) each collected a hit as well.
Ben Braymer earned his second win of the season, tossing five innings in the start and allowing six hits and one run while striking out five batters.
Five Bengal relievers combined for the final four innings to hold the lead for the victory.
LSU Eunice took the lead in the top of the first inning on Trosclair’s RBI single but saw the hosts answer with an RBI single of their own in the bottom of the frame to tie the game.
The score remained the same until the top of the fourth, when Mason Nickens tripled to right-center field and scored moments later on Romero ‘s RBI single back up the middle. The Bengals added two more runs in the fifth on Mason Nickens’ two-run single.
Baton Rouge used a double and a single in back-to-back at-bats to cut the lead to two in the bottom of the sixth, but the Bengals responded with a final run in the eighth when Romero opened the inning with a double before scoring on an error later in the frame.

LSU Eunice and Baton Rouge will now play on Wednesday night at 6 p.m. in Baton Rouge to finish the three-game series.
Following a Monday neutral site contest against Wharton Junior College at McNeese State University at 6 p.m., the Bengals’ schedule will now have them facing Baton Rouge Community College four times in five days beginning with Wednesday’s rescheduled contest.
After Wednesday’s game in Baton Rouge, the two teams will play again next weekend with the same style split-venue series – with LSU Eunice hosting games on Friday (6 p.m.) and Sunday (3 p.m.), with Saturday’s game (6 p.m.) being played in Baton Rouge.
