Beau Chene earns sweep over EHS

The Beau Chene High Lady Gators had several chances to put away the Eunice High Lady Bobcats in District 4-4A action at the Bobcat gym Tuesday night.
But the Lady Bobcats, under coaches Therese Gianfala and Nora Jack, refused to go away and had a chance to pull off an upset late in the game.
The Lady Gators built a 25-19 halftime lead thanks to outscoring the Lady Cats 12-8 and 13-11 over the first two quarters. Beau Chene was able to build as much as a 9-point lead midway in the third quarter before the Lady Cats rallied back to cut the lead to six points heading into the final quarter.
With 2:16 left in the game, the Lady Cats had pulled within one point of the Lady Gators at 41-40 on a field goal by DaShaya Vigers.
But the Lady Cats could get no closer as a field goal by Helena Tibbs and Anna Milton propelled Beau Chene to the 45-40 victory.
The Lady Cats left some points at the free-throw line as they made just six of 16 attempts during the game. Beau Chene was even worse at the line, making just one of 14 attempts.
The Lady Bobcats, now 2-6 in district play, were led in scoring by Vigers with 17 points. Hali Jack added 12 and Beulah Bradley had six.
Beau Chene, now 10-7 overall and 4-4 in district play, was led in scoring by Tibbs with 22 points.
The Lady Cats will host Opelousas High on Friday as they continue district play.

BC 62, EHS boys 34
The Eunice High Bobcats were no match for the Beau Chene High Gators in a 4-4A contest played at the Bobcat gym.
The Gators jumped on the Cats in the early going, building a 15-1 lead over the first five minutes of play on their way to a 62-34 victory.
The Bobcats did make a run over the final three minutes to pull within 19-8 of the Gators, who improved to 15-4 overall and to 4-0 in 4-4A action. That 11-point differential proved to be the closest the Bobcats would get in the contest.
The Gators used accurate three-point shooting and strong drives to the bucket to build a 32-11 lead by halftime. The Cats put up a better battle in the second half, being outscored by only a 30-23 margin.
Denzel Austin claimed top scoring honors for Beau Chene with 19 points. Julian Tibbs added 18 points and Detraven Guilbeau chipped in with 12 for the Gators.
Halen Jack led the Bobcats in scoring with 10 points. Kevin Williams added nine points and Devon Freeman had seven for the Cats.
The Bobcats, who fell to 1-5 in district play, will play host to the Opelousas High Tigers on Friday night.
