Blue Jays battle False River
After an open date last week, the Blue Jays return to District 5-1A action as St. Edmund entertains False River Academy on Friday night.
“We used the time off to get back to the fundamentals and get guys healthy,” SEH head coach Thomas David said.
The Gators (3-4, 1-1) fell to Sacred Heart of Ville Platte (28-6) but regrouped for a 39-28 win over North Central.
Against Sacred Heart, the Gators allowed 355 yards of total offense (279 on the ground) and put up 217 yards against the Trojans defense.
“They play hard and have some good skill athletes,” David said of FRA. “They are not a bad ball club.
“They run the ball well but they also throw it deep - so our defense has to stay honest at all times.”
The Blue Jays (4-3, 2-0) opened district with wins over Catholic High of Pointe Coupee (30-14) and North Central (56-0).
“We need to show up and play our best game.” David said. “We have had a good couple of weeks on both sides of the ball.
“We are showing more consistency than we did early in the season and hopefully we can stay that way.
“We are doing a better job holding on the ball on offense and the defense is getting better each game,” the coach said.
