Blue Jays fall to 3-A Iowa
The Class 1-A Blue Jays expected a challenge from Class 3-A Iowa, but St. Edmund was never a threat as the Yellow Jackets cruised to a 14-1 mercy-rule win.
Iowa (10-4) exploded for five runs in the top of the first as the Yellow Jackets took advantage of a Blue Jay error, two hit batsmen and a walk to go with four hits in the inning.
Alex Guidry, Dayton Sonnier and Thomas LeBleu all singled with one out.
Guidry scored on a throwing error, while Sonnier touched home on a sacrifice bunt by Trentyn Richard.
Alex Hardy was hit by a pitch and Hunter Rousell walked to load the bases.
LeBleu scored when Layne Arementor walked, while Hardy and Rousell touched home on a double by Kyle Delino.
The Yellow Jackets added two more runs in the top of the second, begun when Sonnier singled and scored on a Blue Jay error.
LeBleu doubled and scored when Rousell was hit with the bases loaded.
The Yellow Jackets pushed across four more runs in the top of the third as Iowa led 11-0.
Delino singled, Guidry walked and Sonnier was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
LeBleu drilled a two-RBI hit, while Richard followed with a two-RBI double.
The Yellow Jackets sealed the win with three more runs in the top of the fifth as Guidry singled, Sonnier was hit by a pitch and both scored on a single by Richard.
Richard later scored on a single up the middle by Rousell.
The Blue Jays avoided the shutout when Gibson LaFleur doubled and scored on a sacrifice by Drake Brunet.
Iowa pitcher Dylan Babineaux limited St. Edmund to two hits, both from LaFleur.
After participating in the Westminster Christian Academy this weekend, the Blue Jays (10-4)entertain Fairview at 5 p.m. on Tuesday.
