Blue Jays visit winless WCA
Last week, St. Edmund prepared to face an undefeated Opelousas Catholic team.
This week, the Blue Jays travel to take on winless Westminster Christian Academy.
But for St. Edmund head coach Thomas David the win-loss record isn’t the important factor as the Blue Jays (1-3) close their non-district schedule.
“We have a lot to get cleaned up and not a lot of time left to get it done,” David said. “We need to play a complete game this week and get ready to start district.
“We stayed even with OC,” the coach said. “Things didn’t get out of hand until we had two turnovers and that poor execution put us in a bind that we couldn’t get out of.”
In the loss to the Vikings, the Blue Jays had 375 yards of total offense, while OC finished with 281 yards of offense.
St. Edmund quarterback Drew Brown completed 25-of-47 passes for 319 yards and five touchdowns.
WCA has suffered losses to Ville Platte (38-9), Port Barre (36-0), Kaplan (32-6) and White Castle (30-13).
“They have played some good competition,” David said. “They are not bankrupt - they have talent.
“They are big up front on both sides of the ball,” the coach said of the Crusaders. “They work behind that and run the football at you.
“We need to put a good game on the field,” the coach said. “We need to take advantage of what they give on defense.
“We can move the ball but we need to protect the ball better,” he said. “We need to force some turnovers on defense and swing field position.”
