Bobcats down Demons

The Eunice Bobcats scored all of their runs in the first two innings, then relied on the work of four pitchers to claim a 3-1 victory over the Mamou Green Demons in Acadiana Metro League action Monday night at Bobcat Field.
The Cats (5-2) used small ball to score two runs in the first inning off Mamou starter Hunter Fuselier. Eunice catcher Gunner Fontenot led off the inning with a drag bunt single down the third base line.
Logan Manuel followed with a sacrifice bunt which moved courtesy runner Cade Richard all the way to third base when the bunt was misplayed, allowing Manuel to get to second base.
Jordan Comeaux drove in Richard with a grounder to third base, and Manuel, who advanced to third on Comeaux’s grounder, scored on Wes Hebert’s sacrifice fly.
The Cats added their third run in the second inning.
Caleb Taylor drew a walk and advanced to second base on a single by Alex Richard. Taylor advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Fontenot.
The Cats would get just three more hits over the remainder of the game, but Bobcat pitchers managed to shut down the Demons.
Starting pitcher Comeaux worked three no-hit innings, allowing one walk and recording three strikeouts.
Alec Trosclair relieved Comeaux in the fourth and pitched two innings.
Trosclair gave up a hit to Dillon Duplechain in the fourth, but induced Tanner Rougeau to ground into a 4-6-3 double play to end the inning. Trosclair walked one, hit one batter, and recorded one strikeout before being relieved by Taylor.
Taylor gave up an unearned run to the Demons in the sixth. A walk, a wild pitch, an error, and a grounder by Duplechain produced the run.
Christian Lejeune closed the game for the Cats in the seventh. He walked Tobi Fontenot to open the inning and allowed a single by Fuselier with one out.
But Lejeune struck out the next batter and Eunice catcher Fontenot picked off the runner at first base to end the game.
Fontenot and Hebert had two hits apiece to lead the Cats. Alex Richard and A.P. Sonnier added hits for the Cats. Duplechain and Fuselier had the hits for the Demons.
