Bobcats fall to Gents, 6-4

By John Burson

The Crowley Gents scored two runs in the sixth inning to break a 3-3 tie on the way to a 6-4 victory over the Eunice Bobcats in Acadiana Metro action Wednesday night at Bobcat Field.
The Gents took advantage of two throwing errors on bunts by the Cats to help them take a 5-3 lead.
The Cats scored a run in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead to 5-4, but the Gents scored a run in the seventh to go up 6-4.
The Cats loaded the bases in their seventh inning, but Gents’ reliever Alex Ashby got out the jam as Gunner Fontenot’s hard grounder to shortstop was turned into a double play to end the game.
The Bobcats enjoyed the early lead with a run in the bottom of the first. Jonas Granger singled, stole second base, and scored on a double by Wes Hebert.
The Gents took the lead with three runs in the third off Eunice starting pitcher Christian Lejeune. A double by Pate Broussard, a single by Jon Riley Mouton, and a double by Bubba Daigle produced two runs.
An error would allow Daigle to score to give the Gents a 3-1 lead.
The Bobcats tied the game at 3-3 with two runs in the third.
Daniel Stahl tripled and Cade Richard walked and stole second. Granger’s single scored both runners.
The teams would not score in the fourth and fifth innings, setting the stage for the decisive action in the final two innings.
Each team used three pitchers. Lejeune tossed three innings for the Cats, scattering six hits.
He struck out five with no walks.
Christian Taylor relieved Lejeune and worked three innings, allowing two hits and no earned runs. Jayden Brasseaux pitched the seventh for the Cats.
Broussard worked the first four innings for the Gents, allowing five hits and three runs. He walked one and fanned four. Ashby earned the save by pitching the sixth and the seventh for the Gents.
Granger led the Cats in hitting with two hits and two RBI. Hebert had the run-scoring double for the Cats and Stahl added his triple. Lejeune and Logan Manuel had a single apiece for the Cats.
The Bobcats are scheduled to close the season next week. They will travel to face Notre Dame on Monday and host Rayne on Wednesday. The Cats may play a makeup game against Port Barre at home on Tuesday.
