Bobcats to hold senior night

By Tom Dodge

The Bobcats want to finish the football regular season on a high note as Eunice entertains Pine Prairie Friday for Senior Night.
Eunice’s only District 5-3A loss was to undefeated Northwest, while Pine Prairie’s only district win was over Port Barre.
The No. 18 Bobcats are hoping a win over the Panthers would push Eunice high enough to earn a first-round home game.
“We are right on the bubble to get a home game,” Eunice head coach Paul Trosclair said. “It is going to be close but I don’t think there will be a lot of movement in the power rankings.
“Our focus is on each individual getting better so we can hit the playoffs running.”
Pine Prairie (3-6 overall, 1-3 in district) opened the season with a 22-3 win over Bunkie before back-to-back losses to Class 4-A programs Beau Chene (39-0) and Pearl River (21-6).
The Panthers earned a 19-6 win over Mamou and then fell 22-14 at Tara to close non-district play.
Pine Prairie began district with losses to Northwest (41-0) and Church Point (44-7) before their first district win in school history over the Red Devils (13-8).
The Panthers fell 12-0 to rival Ville Platte last week.
“They have a big offensive line and they run right at you,” Trosclair said. “On defense, they like to blitz so we have to pick those up.
“I think we have a chance for some explosive plays,” he said. “When you blitz that is a gamble and hopefully we could catch them for some big plays.”
Trosclair said he is hoping to get several injured players back in time for the playoffs.
“We could have been a lot higher in the rankings without a couple of unfortunate circumstances,” Trosclair said.
“We have three teams on our schedule that will have at least nine wins,” the coach said about the losses to 9-0 Jennings, 8-1 Rayne and 9-0 Northwest.
“We feel good about what we have done with a very tough schedule but the forfeit (Opelousas High) really hurts as it dropped us six or seven places in the power rankings.”
