Bobcats honor seniors

The Crowley High Gents continued their domination of District 4-4A with a 7-4 victory over the Eunice High Bobcats in baseball action Tuesday night at Bobcat Field.
The win kept the Gents undefeated in district play with an 11-0 record. Crowley improved its overall mark to 22-3 with the victory.
The Bobcats fell to 7-4 in district play and to 15-10 overall.
The game began as a pitching duel between Crowley’s Ben Broussard and Eunice’s Christian Lejeune, with each hurling shutout baseball through the opening three innings. That would change in the fourth inning.
The Gents scored twice as Haden Erbe singled and scored on a double by Andre Larry. Larry later scored on an infield out. The Cats responded in the bottom of the inning with Wes Hebert safe on an error and Alex Sonnier hitting a single. Both runners scored on a double by Lejeune to tie the game at 2-2.
The Gents regained the lead with a two-run fifth with the help of an error and singles by Pate Broussard and Erbe. The Cats cut the lead to 4-3 in their sixth as Hebert singled and Lejeune ripped another run-scoring double.
But the Bobcat lefty would be victimized by two infield errors in the seventh. Pate Broussard would double in one run; Larry would single in another, and Zach Breaux would double in the third to give the Gents a 7-3 advantage.
The Cats would score one run in the bottom of the seventh, but was unable to add any more to end the game.
Sonnier and Lejeune had two hits apiece to lead the Bobcats offensively. Hebert and Cade Richard would finish with a single apiece. Pate Broussard, Erbe, Larry, and Breaux had two hits apiece to lead the Gents’ offense.

LHS 4, Eunice 3
SULPHUR – The LaGrange High Gators scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth to clip the Eunice High Bobcats by a 4-3 margin in a District 4-4A contest at the Sulphur Athletic Complex on Monday.
The Gators’ Milton Chretien singled to score David Prudhomme who drew a walk from Bobcat reliever Alec Trosclair to open the inning.
The Gators took an early lead in the game with two first-inning runs off Eunice starting pitcher Caleb Taylor. But Taylor responded by shutting out the Gators over the next four innings, scattering just three hits over that period.
The Bobcats broke into the scoring column against Gator pitcher Jeremiah West in the fourth inning. Wes Hebert singled and Alex Sonnier was hit by a pitch. With one out, Taylor aided his own cause with a run-scoring single. Trosclair followed with a bunt single before Cade Richard and Gunner Fontenot added RBI singles to give the Bobcats a 3-2 lead.
The Cats had a chance to add another run in the fifth. Jordan Comeaux led off the inning with a double, but West retired the next three hitters to end the threat, stranding Comeaux at second base.
West would take matters into his own hands in the sixth inning to tie the score. He doubled to lead off the inning, stole third base, and scored on Colton Frank’s sacrifice fly. West would shut out the Cats over the remainder of the game, finishing the complete game by scattering 11 hits.
Taylor pitched into the eighth inning, allowing just six hits. He walked two and struck out six.
Hebert had three hits to lead the Bobcat offense. Comeaux and Fontenot had two hits apiece for the Cats.

EHS 6, Rayne 2
LAFAYETTE – The Eunice High Bobcats improved their District 4-4A record to 7-2 with a 6-2 victory over the Rayne High Wolves last Friday at UL-Lafayette’s “Tige” Moore Field.
Coach Scott Phillips’ Bobcats took an early lead with a three-run first inning against Hunter Meche, the starting pitcher for the Wolves. Gunner Fontenot reached base when he was hit by a pitch to start the game. A sacrifice bunt by Logan Manuel moved Fontenot to second base. Fontenot advanced to third on a single by Jordan Comeaux and scored on a double off the bat of Wes Hebert.
Alex Sonnier continued the inning with an infield single, with Comeaux scoring on a wild throw to first base. Hebert later scored on a sacrifice fly by Christian Lejeune.
Lejeune, the Bobcat starting pitcher, retired the first two batters he faced in the bottom of the first, but was touched for a single by Hunter Keely and a double by Grant Abshire to cut the lead to 3-1. Abshire was thrown out by Fontenot on a steal attempt to end the inning.
The Cats added a run in the third inning as Hebert drew a walk and advanced to third on two wild pitches. He would score when Caleb Taylor reached safely on an error, giving the Cats a 4-1 lead. The Cats made it 5-1 with a run in the top of the fifth. Hebert opened the inning with a triple into right-center field and scored on Sonnier’s sacrifice fly.
The Wolves added a run of their in the bottom of the fifth as Blaine Meche doubled and eventually scored on a groundout by Ivy Thibodeaux. But that would be the last run allowed by Lejeune, who scattered four hits, walked one, and struck out two.
The Cats added a run in the sixth as cushion for their lefty pitcher. Cade Richard was hit by a pitch, stole second base, and scored on an error.
The Bobcats played errorless ball, with Comeaux making several exceptional plays at third base. He finished with six assists on defense. Manuel added a diving catch of a fly ball down the right-field line for the first out in the bottom of the seventh. Richard and Alec Trosclair both made outstanding plays of their own at shortstop and second base, respectively.
The Cats travel to Beau Chene today to complete their district schedule.
