Bobcats host Bulldogs in district opener
Eunice opens its defense of the District 5-3A title when the Ville Platte Bulldogs visit Bobcat Field Friday night.
The Bobcats (3-2) are coming off a 28-27 loss to undefeated No. 8 Rayne, but Eunice head coach Paul Trosclair is confident his team will respond against the Bulldogs.
“If you want to win the district championship, it is the most important game for us.
“I think playing at home and coming off a tough loss - I think our players will be focused.”
Ville Platte opened the season with wins over Mamou (28-0) and Basile (28-0) before falling to Lafayette Christian (21-20).
The Bulldogs ran past North Central (45-0), but fell to Opelousas High (7-6) last week.
“They have a good football team, especially on defense,” Trosclair said of Ville Platte. “They look pretty solid so we will have our work cut out for us.”
Eunice quarterback Jaden Brasseaux completed 17-of-21 passes for 222 yards and two touchdowns against Rayne, while wide receiver Jordan Ledet had eight catches for 180 yards including a 48-yard touchdown.
“Jordan had a great game catching and Jaden had a good game throwing the ball,” Trosclair said. “They connected pretty well after we lost Dashawn (Vigers) in the second quarter.”
Avery Lee gained 105 yards on 23 carries to push past 550 yards so far this season.
“Every goal is still in front of us,” the coach said. “Our goal is to get this district started with a win and compete for the district title again.”
Last year, Eunice won 35-0 en route to its 5-0 district run.
