Bobcats moving down in new plan
The Louisiana High School Athletic Association released its first proposed 2015-16 district list on Wednesday.
The second reclassification meeting will be held on Feb. 25 with the final plan being presented to the Executive Committee for adoption at the March 18 meeting.
The Eunice Bobcats are set to move down to District 5-3A where they would face former district foes Church Point and Northwest along with Iota, Pine Prairie, Port Barre, South Beauregard and Ville Platte.
Eunice would replace present district 5-3A member Livonia, who is moving up to Class 4-A.
The line drawn between classifications puts Eunice as the final team in Class 3-A with 648 students.
Crowley High sits at 649, the smallest 4-A school.
Currently, Eunice is in District 4-4A with Beau Chene, Crowley, LaGrange, Opelousas, Rayne and Washington-Marion.
Church Point is now in District 5-3A with Livonia, Northwest, Pine Prairie, Port Barre and Ville Platte.
Iota is presently in District 4-3A with Iowa, Jennings, South Beauregard, St. Louis and Westlake.
The Mamou Green Demons will remain in District 4-2A with DeQuincy, Kinder, Lake Arthur, Vinton and Welsh and newcomer from 6-3A, Notre Dame.
In Class 1-A, District 5 would remain the same with St. Edmund (122), Catholic of Pointe Coupee, False River Academy, North Central except former member Westminster Christian Academy will return.
The Basile Bearcats will be in District 4 along with eight others including East Beauregard, Elton, Grand Lake, Hamilton Christian, L.C. College Prep, Merryville, Oberlin and South Cameron.
Sacred Heart of Ville Platte is moving up to Class 2-A and will join Bunkie, Menard, Many, Oakdale, Pickering, Rapides (non-football) and Rosepine in District 3.
SHVP, at 242, will be one of the smallest Class 2-A programs with the line drawn at 239.
