Bobcats run past Livonia

By John Burson

The Eunice High Bobcats improved their record to 5-1 with a 60-40 victory over the Livonia High Wildcats in action Tuesday night at the Bobcat gym.
Coach Chad Andrepont’s Bobcats used a 16-0 run to start the third quarter to increase their halftime lead from 23-14 to 39-14. Leading the Bobcat surge were Kevin Williams and Mitchell Cormier with seven and five points, respectively. The run was broken by the Wildcats’ Marco Dixon’s field goal.
With three minutes left in the third quarter, Williams rebounded a missed shot and scored a field goal to put the Bobcats ahead by a 41-16 margin. But a bucket by Shedron Cotton cut the lead to 41-18. Cormier hit a shot beyond the 3-point line to extend the Bobcat lead to 44-18.
But the Wildcats caught fire in the final two minutes, going on a 9-0 run to cut the Eunice High lead to 44-27 behind the shooting of Dixon, who had a driving layup, then a 3-point field goal to help his team trail at halftime by just 17 points.
The Wildcats opened the fourth quarter with Cotton hitting a three-point goal and Jeremy Richard adding a field goal to cut the Bobcat lead to 44-32. After an exchange of field goals, Cotton drove to the basket to cut the lead to 46-34 with 6:15 remaining in the game.
Another field goal by Cotton brought the Wildcats to within 10 points, but Malik Poullard’s three-point field goal put the Bobcats up 49-38 as the clock worked down to the five-minute mark.
A drive by Cotton cut the lead to 49-38, but a tip-in basket by Brandon Ndubueze put the Bobcats up 51-38.
Ndubueze would drive for two more times, then add two free throws to complete the Bobcat scoring. Livonia would score one more field goal to make the final score 60-40.
Ndubueze led the Bobcats with 17 points. He made six field goals and was five-of-six from the free throw line. Williams added 14 points and Cormier hit the double-figure mark with 10 points. Dashawn Vigers had eight points and Malik Poullard had seven points for the Bobcats. Travis Godfrey and Georrein Dupre completed the Eunice scoring with two points apiece.
Livonia’s top scorer was Cotton with 15 points. Dixon and Richard added 10 points apiece for the Wildcats.
In action last week in the Port Barre High Tournament, the Bobcats fell to the Carencro High Bears by a 90-53 margin. Carencro was led in scoring by Dardre Dudley with 20 points.
