Bobcats slip past Bastrop
MONROE – The Eunice High Bobcats overcame their own mistakes to hold off a late Ram rally on the way to a 12-9 win over Bastrop on Thursday at Neville Stadium.
The Bobcats jumped out to a 5-0 lead with a run in the first inning and four in the second.
Jake Sonnier scored in the first inning as he drew a walk, stole second and scored on a balk by Bastrop pitcher Dollar Ridgett.
In the second inning, the Bobcats scored on doubles by Wes Hebert and Brennan Ashley.
Sonnier added a run-scoring double and Andrew Lomas tripled in a run. Lomas later scored on a double by Jordan Comeaux.
Bastrop scored single unearned runs in the second and third innings to close the gap to 5-2.
The Cats got a run back in the top of the fourth as Lomas doubled and scored on a wild pitch.
Bastrop added two runs in the bottom of the inning to make it, 6-4.
The Cats responded with a three-run fifth inning, courtesy of a Scotty Bihm single, two walks and a critical Ram error.
Bastrop responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning to close the gap to 9-7.
The Bobcats put the game away in the top of the seventh by scoring three runs, highlighted by a run-scoring single by Kalum Fruge and a RBI double by Bihm.
Lomas worked four innings to earn the win as he scattered six hits, allowed one run, with one walk and a strikeout.
Alec Trosclair started the fifth before being relieved by Fruge.
Fruge pitched three innings for the save and allowed just one hit.
The Bobcats (4-1) committed seven errors, but did bang out 12 hits, led by Lomas, Bihm and Gunner Fontenot’s two hits each.
After finishing play in the Trey Altick Louisiana Prep Baseball Classic, the Bobcats will visit Lafayette High on Tuesday.
