Bobcats travel to LaGrange

After opening District 4-4A play with a 41-0 win over Opelousas High, last week’s 26-20 overtime loss to Washington-Marion put Eunice High back into the pack in the race for the title.
The Bobcats visit LaGrange (1-4, 1-0) after the Gators stunned unbeaten Rayne in a 36-20 win.
“Washington-Marion ran the ball down the field and that is never a good sign,” Eunice High head coach Paul Trosclair said of the Indians’ 256 yards rushing.
“Now we are going to play the most physical team on our schedule this week,” the coach said. “We put ourselves in a little bind with the loss.”
LaGrange opened the season 0-4 with losses to Notre Dame (24-14), Barbe (34-6), University High (27-26) and Calvary Baptist (35-6).
“They are the defending district champs with a lot of talent.” Trosclair said.
In the district opener against Rayne, LaGrange had 271 yards on the ground, led by Markell Hawthorne’s 22 carries for 188 yards and two touchdowns.
After trailing 20-0 in the first half last week, the Bobcats rallied to force overtime.
“It was a good comeback and I really thought we were going to pull out the win in the end,” the Bobcat coach said. “We did enough wrong to lose that game.
“If we didn’t turn it over twice, we still had a chance to win.”
Trosclair said it is important to put the loss behind them and work to get better this week.
“There is no time to feel sorry for yourselves in football,” he said. “We can’t live in the past or we will get beat again.”
In other district action, Beau Chene (2-3, 0-1) visits OHS (1-4, 0-2), Crowley (4-1, 2-0) travels to Washington-Marion (1-4, 1-1), while Rayne (4-1, 1-1) visits Morgan City (2-3) in a non-district game.
