Eunice grabs sweep over Oakdale
OAKDALE – The Eunice High Lady Bobcats evened their season record at 3-3 on Monday night with a 61-44 victory over the Oakdale High Lady Warriors.
Coach Therese Gianfala’s Lady Cats took an 8-6 lead after one quarter and extended it to 21-17 at the half.
The Eunice High girls began to pull away in the third quarter thanks to defensive pressure which resulted in several easy buckets.
By the end of the third quarter the Lady Cats had a 43-30 advantage. The Lady Cats closed out the win with an 18-14 advantage in the fourth quarter.
Hali Jack led the Lady Bobcats in scoring with 28 points, including nine in the third quarter. She made 11 field goals, including four from beyond the 3-point line.
DaShaya Vigers added 18 points as she made eight field goals and two free throws.
Beuhla Bradley also hit the double-figure mark in scoring with 10 points.
Mia Lejeune had three and Alexia Jason added two to complete the Eunice scoring.
Oakdale was led in scoring by Rachelle Green with 23 points.
The Lady Cats were scheduled to face Northwest on Wednesday in the opening round of the Pine Prairie High School Tournament.
EHS 80, OHS 43
OAKDALE – The Eunice High Bobcats took an early lead and maintained it on the way to an 80-43 victory over the Oakdale High Warriors.
Coach Chad Andrepont’s Bobcats took a 12-6 first quarter lead and followed it with an 18-11 advantage in the second quarter to build a 30-17 lead at halftime.
The Cats put the game out of reach by out-scoring the Warriors by a 26-10 margin in the third quarter.
Four Bobcats scored in double figures, with Kevin Williams leading the way with 17 points.
Brandon Ndubueze and Malik Poullard added 13 points apiece and Ronald Jacobs added 10 for the Cats. Terryl Poullard chipped in with six points, while Andrew Jason, Keithan Green, Jude Cormier, and Georrein Dupre each finished with four points.
Quindale Thomas topped the scoring for Oakdale with 21 points. Tim Townley added eight points for Oakdale.
The Bobcats, now 2-5, will see their next action in the St. Landry Parish Tournament which begins on December 17 at Beau Chene.
Crowley 58, EHS 49
IOWA – The Lady Bobcats had it going in Saturday’s game against the Crowley Ladies in their final game of the Iowa High Tournament.
Eunice held a 26-21 lead at the half and appeared to have the game in hand.
But the third quarter proved difficult for the Lady Cats as they scored on seven points while Crowley put 20 on the board for a 41-33 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Part of the problem for the Lady Cats were an inability to convert from the free-throw line. Eunice shot 12 free throws in the third quarter and made just three. The Ladies hit seven field goals and the Lady Cats managed just two in the crucial quarter.
The Eunice girls came back at the start of the fourth quarter as junior Dashaya Vigers scored 12 points to lead the way, but the Crowley duo of Chelsea Yokum and Taylor Dapremont scored five and eight points apiece to help Crowley ward off the Lady Cats for the 58-49 victory.
Vigers topped the Lady Bobcats in scoring with 25 points, while Hali Jack had 11, Skyler Ardoin and Alicia Ceaser scored five and four, respectively.
Crowley was led in scoring by Yokum with 14 and Dapremont with 12. Myra Rogers chipped in with 11 points for the Ladies.
Carencro 72, EHS 46
LAFAYETTE – The Eunice High Bobcats closed out their play at the Teurlings High Basketball Tournament by falling to Carencro High 72-46 on Saturday.
The Bobcats (1-5) fell behind the 5A Bears 15-6 in the first quarter and were forced to play catch-up the remainder of the contest. The Bears extended their lead to 31-17 by halftime, then outscored the Cats 22-18 in the third quarter to hold off any comeback attempt.
The Bears were led in scoring by Jacob Siner with 17 points. Araden Adams and Kevin George added 15 points apiece for Carencro.
The Bobcats were led in scoring by sophomore Poullard with 11 points, including two goals from three-point range.
Ndubueze added ten points, while Kevin Williams and Ray Rougeau had six apiece. Travis Godfrey and Devon Freeman had five points apiece.
