Eunice splits with Raiders

The Eunice High Lady Bobcats jumped out to a 10-5 lead after one quarter and never surrendered it as they posted a 51-38 victory over the Northwest High Lady Raiders in District 5-3A action Tuesday evening at the Eunice High gym.
Coach Wayne Fontenot’s Lady Bobcats raised their district record to 3-1, bouncing back from last Friday’s loss at Ville Platte.
“We played hard the entire game and I thought our pressure defense caused them a lot of problems,” commented Fontenot. “Our post play was exceptional as well, with all three players doing a great job.”
Freshman Stacie White hit three field goals to lead the Lady Bobcats in the opening quarter, including one from 3-point range. White added three more points at the free throw line.
The Lady Cats would maintain their lead thanks to a 13-12 advantage in the second quarter to hold a 23-17 lead heading into halftime. Shania Malveaux had seven points in the second quarter to pace the Eunice attack. Shay Vigers and Mia Lejeune added field goals for the Lady Cats during the quarter.
Northwest’s Jordon Duplechain opened the third quarter with a field goal from beyond the 3-point arc, but the Lady Cats quickly responded with Vigers hitting one of two free throws, Lejeune scoring a goal after grabbing a rebound, and Malveaux driving in for a basket to increase the Eunice lead to 28-20.
The Lady Raiders’ MarTaylor Guidry would hit a field goal with just over four minutes left in the third quarter to cut the Eunice lead to 29-22, but Vigers would answer the field goal with a 3-point field goal to put the Lady Cats up 32-22. The Lady Raiders would never get closer than eight points again.
Eunice would close out the victory by outscoring the Lady Raiders by a 15-10 margin in the fourth quarter. White would add 10 points over the final quarter to seal the win for the Lady Cats.

After trailing 15-14 after one quarter, the Northwest High Raiders dominated play for the remainder of the game on their way to a 65-47 victory over the Eunice High Bobcats in District 5-3A basketball action Tuesday night at the Bobcat gym.
The Raiders would start to pull away in the second quarter thanks to a 10-point scoring surge by August Pitre. Eunice High’s Mitchell Cormier extended the Eunice lead to 18-14 to open the quarter, but the Bobcats would not score another point until Brandon Ndubueze’s field goal with three minutes left in the quarter cut the Northwest lead to 27-20. That field goal stopped a 13-0 run by the Raiders.
The Raiders went into the halftime break with a 34-24 advantage and would limit the Cats to just nine points in the third quarter to build a 51-33 lead heading into the final quarter. Both teams scored 14 apiece over the final eight minutes of play.
“We didn’t shoot the ball well and had too many turnovers”, commented Eunice High head coach Chad Andrepont. “We let them dictate the style of play.”
Pitre led the scoring for the Raiders with 17 points. Anthony White and Braylin Benvenue contributed 13 and 11 points, respectively, for the Raiders.
Cormier and Brandon Ndubueze shared top scoring honors for the Bobcats with 11 points apiece. Kevin Williams added 10 points and Terreyll Poullard had six points.
