Eunice, Ville Platte share district wins

VILLE PLATTE – The Eunice High Bobcats jumped to an early first quarter lead and never were threatened on the way to a 70-52 victory over the Ville Platte High Bulldogs here Friday night at the Bulldog gym.
Coach Chad Andrepont’s team improved their overall record to 14-7 as opened District 5-3A action with a win.
“Our players did a great job of following our game plan,” explained Andrepont. “We held a double-digit lead for most of the game. They cut to single digits in the third quarter but we responded well to get the lead back to double digits.”
The fast start by the Bobcats resulted in a 21-10 lead at the end of the first quarter. Malik Poullard had six points on two 3-point goals and Terreyll Poullard added five points. Halen Jack and Brandon Ndubueze chipped with four apiece.
The two teams battled to a 16-16 tie in the second quarter, but the Bobcats still lead by a 37-26 margin at the half. Kevin Williams, Deshawn Vigers, and Mitchell Cormier each contributed four points in the quarter for the Bobcats.
The Cats held off the Bulldogs in the third quarter by a 14-12 margin. Cormier led the Cats with six points and Jack added four as Eunice High entered the fourth quarter with a 51-38 lead.
The Cats would put the game away with a 19-14 effort over the final eight minutes. Ndubueze led the way for the Cats with six points in the quarter.
Ville Platte (6-9, 0-1) was led in scoring by Shanicole Holland with 17 points. Kelian Semien added 15 points.
It was a balanced attack for the Bobcats as five players hit the double figure mark for the game. Ndubueze topped the list with 14 points. Terryell Poullard had 11, with Malik Poullard, Mitchell Cormier, and Kevin Williams scoring 10 points apiece. Jack finished with eight points.
The Bobcats will continue district play on Tuesday when they host the Northwest High Raiders at the Bobcat gym.

Lady Bulldogs 63, Lady Bobcats 44
The Ville Platte High Lady Bulldogs pulled away from the Eunice High Lady Bobcats in the second half on the way to a 63-44 victory in a District 5-3A contest played here Friday night.
The loss was the first in district play for the Lady Cats who entered the game with a 2-0 district mark. The win improved the Lady Bulldogs to a 3-0 start in district action.
The teams opened the contest with the Lady Bobcats holding a 14-13 lead at the end of the first quarter. Stacie White led the Eunice scoring with seven points, while Shay Vigers added five. Myra McKinney led the Lady Bulldogs with six points.
Ville Platte’s Keolagan Calvin scored eight points to lead her team to a 16-12 second quarter advantage for a 29-26 halftime lead.
The third quarter was the pivotal quarter of the game as the Lady Bulldogs took command of the game with a 13-7 advantage. Kabreonna Stevens led the scoring with five points.
The Lady Bulldogs finished off the win with an impressive 21-11 fourth quarter against a tiring Lady Bobcat team.
Calvin finished as the top scorer for Ville Platte with 21 points. McKinney added 17 for the Lady Bulldogs.
White led the scoring for the Lady Bobcats with 21 points. Vigers added nine and Aisha Ledet chipped in with seven. Shania Malveaux scored six and Mia Lejeune completed the Eunice scoring with one.
In other action, Eunice Junior High earned a 27-11 win over Port Barre.
Jesslyn Reed scored 11 points to lead EJH.
