Five Jays head to 1-A state meet
BASILE - St. Edmund will send five athletes to next Friday’s Class 1-A state track meet at Bernie Moore Stadium in Baton Rouge.
Heidi Bieber captured second in the girls pole vault at 7-6, while Jada Fontenot finished second in the triple jump with a leap of 33-05.50.
Heather Bieber finished second in the shot put with a toss of 34-3.
She also advanced to the state meet with a third-place finish in the discus with a throw of 98-2.
In the boys competition, Landen Lyons finished second in the pole vault at 12-0, while Drew Brown grabbed third place in the long jump (19-05.50).
Alison Turk finished fifth in the 400 meters with a time of 1:07.75.
Claire Quirk finished fourth in the 3,200 meters with a time of 14:27.11 and sixth in the 1,600 meters (6:34.27)
Alex Hunt finished fourth in the boys 3,200 meters with a time of 11:57.66.
Hunt also finished fifth in the pole vault at 9-6.
Cullen Brown finished fourth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 45.35 and fifth in the 110-meter hurdles (19.52).
Ross LaFleur finished fifth in the javelin with a throw of 153-2.
Hamilton Christian won the Region 2 women’s competition with 108 points, followed by Oberlin (78), Merryville (68), Catholic High of Pointe Coupee (60), St. Edmund (39) and Sacred Heart of Ville Platte (39). Basile finished at No. 14 with 11 points.
Vermilion Catholic cruised in the boys competition with 133.50 points, followed by Hamilton Christian (68), Pointe Coupee Central (48), Oberlin (47), Lafayette Christian (41), Elton (38.50), East Beauregard (28) and St. Edmund (28).
Basile finished at No, 14 with six points.
