Fontenot, Powell share top honors
Already this season, Basile’s Gabe Fontenot and Eunice High’s Nick Powell have earned top player honors.
This week, the duo will share the Eunice News Player of the Week honors after leading their teams to crucial district wins.
Fontenot finished with 257 yards on 20 carries and scored five times in the Bearcats’ 33-13 win over Westminster Christian Academy.
Powell gained 165 yards on 28 carries with five touchdowns in the Bobcats’ 56-25 win over Northwest High.
Other top performers included:
St. Edmund quarterback Drake Brunet completed 17-of-28 passes for 235 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions in the Blue Jays’ 44-30 loss to Catholic High of Pointe Coupee.
Blue Jay running back Gibson LaFleur had nine catches for 143 yards and scored twice on 38 yards rushing.
Church Point quarterback Troy Matte completed 11-of-14 passes for 194 yards and three touchdowns in the Bears’ 41-13 win over Pine Prairie.
Church Point running back Frederick Williams had 136 yards on eight carries with four touchdowns in the win.
Williams also had four catches for 56 yards, including a 26-yard touchdown pass from Matte.
Basile’s Jarrod Belle gained 96 yards on 10 carries in the Bearcats’ win.
Eunice High quarterback Alex Richard completed 10-of-14 passes for 152 yards and also scored on a 4-yard run.
Travis Godfrey caught four passes for 105 yards including a 50-yard touchdown pass from punter Wesley Hebert.
