Gators sweep Eunice

The LaGrange High Lady Gators pulled away from the Eunice High Lady Bobcats in the second half to claim a 65-45 victory Friday in District 4-4A play at the Eunice High gym.
The Lady Gators enjoyed a strong start against the Lady Cats, leading 10-2 with 3:23 left in the first quarter, but the Lady Cats went on a 10-2 run over the remainder of the quarter to tie the game at 12-12 heading into the second quarter. Hali Jack had two three-point field goals to lead the Lady Cats in the opening quarter.
LaGrange had a run of its own at the beginning of the second quarter. The Lady Gators outscored the Lady Cats 11-2 in the first four minutes of the quarter to go up 23-14. The Lady Bobcats battled back late in the quarter to trail by only ten points at the half.
The third quarter belonged to the Lady Gators. LaGrange extended their lead to 50-32 with a 14-7 advantage in the third quarter. The Lady Cats tried to rally in the fourth, but the Lady Gators held off the Eunice girls by a 16-13 margin to secure the victory.
LaGrange, now 18-7 overall and 8-2 in 4-4A play, was led in scoring by Davia Landry with 23 points. Da’Laisha Thomas added 17 points for the Lady Gators.
Dashaya Vigers led the Lady Cats in scoring with 16 points. Jack and Beulha Bradley each hit the double-figure mark with 14 and 10 points, respectively.

The Eunice High Bobcats stayed within contact of the LaGrange High Gators for three quarters, but the Gators dominated the fourth quarter of their District 4-4A contest to post a 65-45 victory Friday night at the Bobcat gym.
The Bobcats started slowly, trailing 7-0 at the midway point of the first quarter. The Cats still trailed by a 15-5 margin at the end of the quarter, but made a 15-6 run in the second quarter behind two 3-point field goals by Malik Poullard to pull within 26-23 with 1:01 left in the half. Ephriam Price put the Gators up 28-23 with a field goal, but Terryl Poullard put back a miss to make it 28-25. Price made a field goal at the buzzer to put the Gators ahead 30-25 at halftime.
The Bobcats kept within touch of the Gators in the third quarter, never falling behind by more than ten points. Brandon Ndubueze hit a field goal at the buzzer to cut the Gator lead to 51-43.
The Cats couldn’t close it out, however, in the fourth quarter. Six turnovers by the Cats in the first three minutes of the fourth quarter allowed the Gators to pull away to a 57-43 lead and basically seal the win.
The Gators, now 14-14 overall and 6-2 in district play, was led in scoring by Price with 20 points. J’son Brooks added 16 and Markel Semien chipped in with 13 for the Gators.
Ndubueze led the Bobcats in scoring with nine points. Jude Cormier added eight and Travis Godfrey had seven. Malik Poullard finished with six points.
The Bobcats, now 1-8 in district, will travel to face the Rayne High Wolves on Monday before hosting Crowley on Monday, February 16 at the Bobcat gym.
