Iota downs Lady Jays

Iota 71, St. Edmund 30
IOTA - The Lady Bulldogs exploded for a 32-9 first-quarter lead as Iota cruised to a 71-30 win over the St. Edmund Lady Jays.
Payton Crowell, Jami LeBouef and Abby Miller scored three points each for St. Edmund in the first period, while Cambie St. Andre pushed in 1 points for the Lady Dogs.
Iota continued its early domination with a 22-7 second-period run to give the Lady Dogs a 54-16 advantage at intermission.
LeBouef hit her second trey in the game, while Allison LaFleur hit a bucket and Crowell added two free throws.
Iota’s Madeline Gatte scored 10 points in the period to lead the Lady Dogs.
The second half was a lot closer as Iota out-scored St. Edmund 17-14.
The Lady Dogs pushed in 13 points in the third period, while the Lady Jays scored a game-high 10 points.
Elissa David and Miller each scored four points for St. Edmund as Crowell added two free throws.
Madison Olivier led Iota with four points in the third frame.
Defense took over in the fourth quarter as St. Edmund and Iota battled to a 4-4 tie.
Abby Brown and Crowell each scored for the Lady Jays, while Patricia Deshotel scored all four points for Iota.
Crowell finished with nine points to lead St. Edmund, while LeBouef scored eight points and Miller chipped in seven points.
Three players scored in double figures for Iota, including Gatte (12), St. Andre (11) and Shydee Johnson (11).
St. Edmund will entertain Plainview at 6 p.m. Thursday before opening District 5-1A play at Catholic High of Pointe Coupee on Friday.

Iowa 62, Eunice 59
IOWA – The Eunice High Bobcats suffered a tough road loss last Friday night as the Iowa High Yellow Jackets rallied late to claim a 62-59 victory.
The Bobcats dominated the first half of the contest, out-scoring the Jackets 16-7 and 25-13 over the first two quarters to build a 41-22 lead by halftime.
But Iowa fought back in the third quarter with a 23-13 advantage to cut the Bobcat lead to 54-45 heading into the fourth quarter.
The Jackets, aided by a six of six performance from the free-throw line in the final quarter, out-scored the Cats by a 17-5 margin to come away with the three-point victory.
For the game, the Jackets made 16 of 21 free throws, counting the six made in the final eight minutes of action.
The Cats went to the free-throw line 10 times in the game and converted six of those chances.
Three Bobcats scored in double figures to pace the Eunice High attack. They were Kevin Williams with 12 and Halen Jack and Travis Godfrey with 10 points apiece. Keithan Green added eight, while Malik Poullard and Brandon Ndubueze had seven and six, respectively.
Austin Wilmore led Iowa in scoring with 20 points. Darion Daniels and Andre Sam added 12 points apiece for the Yellow Jackets.
