Iota grabs 2-0 win over Lady Jays

It was defensive battle from start to finish, but the Iota Lady Bulldogs managed to push two runs across to earn a shutout win over rival St. Edmund.
The Lady Jays threatened early when Kelli Richard singled in the first and Presley Vidrine hit in the third frame, but neither could score.
Lady Bulldog Sarah Johnson singled in the bottom of the first but was picked off attempting to advance to second.
Iota pitcher Cameron Crochet singled in the bottom of the second but was left stranded at third base.
After two scoreless innings, Iota’s Tristen Andrepont singled and scored on Lauren Miller’s hit up the middle.
The Lady Dogs added a run in the bottom of the fourth inning when Crochet singled and touched home plate on hit to right field by Taylor Dupont.
Victoria McGee singled and Abby Miller walked as the Lady Jays threatened in the top of the fifth inning, but the Iota defense preserved the shutout.
The Lady Dogs attemped to add a run in the bottom of the sxith when Crochet doubled to centerfield, but she could not score.
McGee was hit by a pitch with two outs in the top of the seventh, but could not advance as the Lady Dogs earned the win.
Crochet struck out six, walked one, had one hitbatsman and allowed three hits
Kasey LaFleur suffered the loss as she struck out two and allowed seven hits.
Crochet helped her own cause with three hits including a double and a run scored.
Sarah Johnson, Lauren Miller, Dupont and Andrepont all singled for the Lady Bulldogs.
Richard, McGee and Vidrine collected the three Lady Jay hits.
St. Edmund went 3-1 in the EHS Lady Bobcat Invitational this past weekend.
The Lady Jays suffered a 12-2 loss to Sacred Heart of Ville Platte but then grabbed wins over Livonia (14-4), Jennings (14-3) and Eunice High (18-4).
St. Edmund (3-3) will entertain Northside Christian (1-0) at 4 p.m. today at Lady Jay Field.
Iota (1-5) travels to Rayne (2-1) today.
