John R. Young-Frey Holding baseball tourney begins Thursday

The John R. Young Cheverolet/Frey Holding Company tournament is fast becoming one of the largest high school tournaments in the state.
According to Eunice High head coach Scott Phillips, the tournament is set to begin toady with 24 teams at five different fields.
“After going on the road to tournaments over the years I like the idea of teams being able to bounce around from one field to another and see a variety of schools.
Games will be played at Eunice High, St. Edmund, Jennings, Iota and Ascension Episcopal.
“We have quality teams including Mangham and St. Michael’s,” Phillips said. “It is a good tournament that includes local teams too.”
The rainy weather could affect the schedule, but today at EHS, Sacred Heart of Ville Platte is set to face Beau Chene at 4:30 p.m. followed by host Eunice against Pine Prairie at 6:45 p.m.
At North Park, Livonia will take on Cecilia at 4:30 p.m., while host St. Edmund will face Mamou at 6:45 p.m.
In Iota, DeRidder will take on Kaplan at 4:30 p.m., followed by the Bulldogs battling Crowley at 6:45 p.m.
In Jennings, Westlake and Port Barre begin at 4:30 p.m., followed by JHS and LaGrange at 6:45 p.m.
At Ascension Episcopal, Brusly and Breaux Bridge begins at 4:30 p.m., followed by host AES - Church Point.
On Friday at Bobcat Field, Mamou- Breaux Bridge begins action at 4 p.m. with Brusly-Crowley following.
Eunice and St. Michael’s conclude action at 8:30 p.m.
At North Park, DeRidder and St. Michael’s begin at 4 p.m., followed by Mangham facing St. Edmund at 6:15 p.m.
Friday’s finale is Pine Prairie taking on DeRidder at 8:30 p.m.
Friday in Iota, Livonia and LaGrange begin at 4:30 p.m. before the Bulldogs entertain Kaplan at 6:45 p,m,
LaGrange will face Port Barre at 8:30 p.m.
In Jennings, Sacred Heart will face St. John’s at 4 p.m., while the host Bulldogs will take on Cecilia at 6:15 p.m.
Livonia and St. John’s will conclude Friday’s action.
At Ascension Episcopal, Beau Chene will face Westlake at 4 p.m. Friday, followed by AES - False River at 6:15 p.m.
Ascension will conclude action against Westlake at 8:30 p.m.
Saturday’s action at EHS begins at 10 a.m. when Beau Chene faces Mangham.
St. John’s and DeRidder will do battle at 12:15 p.m., followed by Eunice - Mangham at 2:30 p.m.
Crowley will take on False River at 4:45 p.m. at Bobcat Field.
Saturday games at North Park begin with Brusly-Church Point at 10 a.m.
Breaux Bridge and False River square off at 12:15 p.m., while the Blue Jays take on Brusly at 2:30 p.m.
In Iota, Cecilia will face Mamou at 11 a.m., followed by Sacred Heart-Church Point at 1:30 p.m.
Iota will conclude the tournament against St. John’s at 4 p.m.
In Jennings, Kaplan and Port Barre are set to begin at 11 a.m. with Jennings-St. Michael’s at 1:15 p.m.
With no games set for Ascension Episcopal on Sturday, the Blue Gators will take on Pine Prairie in Jennings at 3:30 p.m.
