Lady Bobcats open district with win

CROWLEY – The Eunice High Lady Bobcats opened District 4-4A play with a 50-38 victory over the Crowley High Ladies Monday night.
The Lady Cats improved to 10-3 overall with a win in their initial district contest.
Eunice established control in the first quarter with a 12-5 advantage. Hali Jack and Dashaya Vigers contributed five points apiece to lead the scoring. Eunice had opportunities to extend the lead in the second quarter, but managed to make just one of 12 free throws in the quarter. The Lady Cats maintained an 18-9 halftime lead.
Eunice increased its lead to 25-13 on a driving shot from Ashley Washington at the 4:25 mark of the third quarter.
But the Ladies used three-point goals from Chelsea Young and Nykelia Washington to cut the lead to four points with at the 1:09 mark of the third quarter.
A free throw by Jack and a driving layup by Beulah Bradley in the final minute allowed the Cats to take a 33-26 lead into the fourth quarter.
Crowley made an early run in the fourth quarter to cut the Eunice lead to 33-30 with 5:34 left in the game.
But just seconds later, Jack responded with a 3-point goal to put the Lady Cats up 36-30.
Crowley went inside for a field goal to cut the lead to 36-32, but Logan Ledoux put back a missed shot at the 4:34 mark to give the Lady Cats a 38-32 lead. Eunice finished the game with a 12-6 run to post the victory.
Jack led the Lady Bobcats in scoring for the game with 14 points, nine of which came from beyond the 3-point arc.
Vigers finished with 11 points, including five of six from the free-throw line. Bradley, Washington, and Ledoux contributed seven points apiece for the Lady Cats. Bethany Issac and Mia Lejeune added three points and one point, respectively, for Eunice.

DHS 54, EHS 49
DERIDDER – Coming off two consecutive wins in the Midland High Tournament, the Eunice High Bobcats dropped a 54-49 decision Monday night to the DeRidder High Dragons.
Coach Chad Andrepont’s Bobcats (6-10) trailed 11-10 after the first quarter, despite an eight-point effort by Ron Shillow. The Cats were outscored 17-14 in the second quarter as they trailed the Dragons at the half by a 28-24 margin.
A 16-14 advantage in the third quarter pushed the Bobcats to cut the Dragons’ lead to two points (42-40) heading into the fourth quarter. Jerwaski Thomas and Shillow had six and five points apiece, respectively, to lead the Cats’ third-quarter scoring.
The Dragons managed to hold off the Cats by outscoring them 12-9 over the final eight minutes of action. The Cats were hurt at the free-throw line in the fourth quarter, making just one of five attempts. For the game, the Cats converted just eight of 21 from the free-throw line.
Shillow led the Bobcats in scoring with 17 points. Thomas added 11, including three from beyond the 3-point line. Kevin Williams and Travis Godfrey contributed six points apiece.
Joe Walters led DeRidder in the scoring column with 13 points. Claude Ashworth chipped in with 10.
On Saturday, the Bobcats claimed a 68-44 victory over the Holden High School Rocket to wrap up their participation in the Midland High Tournament by winning two of three games.
The Cats established their dominance early in the game by taking a 25-13 lead in the first quarter. Paul Hebert and Khaleel Deville led the early surge with eight points apiece.
The Cats built a 34-21 halftime lead and were never challenged in the second half, outscoring the Rocket by a 34-23 margin.
Thomas topped the scoring column for the Bobcats with 18 points. Shillow added 13 and Deville had 12 for the Cats. Andrew Carlton led Holden with 11 points, while Ray Hutchison added 10 points.
