Lady Cats finish third in parish tourney

PRAIRIE RONDE – The Eunice High Lady Bobcats took an early lead and made it stand up to defeat the Northwest High Lady Raiders 51-47 to claim third place in the St. Landry Parish Basketball Tournament played here Saturday at the Northwest High gym .
Coach Wayne Fontenot’s Lady Bobcats opened the game with a 14-8 lead at the end of the first quarter. Senior Shay Vigers led the scoring for the Lady Bobcats in that quarter with 10 points. Freshman Stacie White added the other four points for the Lady Cats. Jordan Duplechan scored three points for the Lady Raiders.
The two teams scored 12 points apiece in the second quarter, with White and Vigers scoring four points apiece to lead the Lady Cats to a 26-20 advantage heading into halftime.
The Lady Cats continued to protect their lead with a 12-10 advantage in the third quarter. White led the Eunice scoring in the quarter with six points, with Shania Malveaux adding a 3-point field goal and a free throw. Aisha Ledet added a field goal as well for the Lady Cats.
The Lady Raiders put together a charge in the fourth quarter as Duplechin led the way with four field goals and teammate Ebony Seraille added five points. But the Lady Cats held on as Vigers, Malveaux, and Mia Lejeune scored four points apiece to secure the win despite the Lady Raiders outscoring the Lady Bobcats by a 17-13 margin.
Vigers had a game-high 18 points to lead the Lady Bobcats in scoring. White added 14, with Malveaux and Ledet contributing eight and six points, respectively.
Duplechin topped the scoring for the Lady Raiders with 17 points.

NHS 70, Eunice 45
The Eunice High Lady Bobcats saw their four game winning streak come to end Tuesday evening as they fell to the Northside High Lady Vikings by a 70-45 margin in basketball action at the Bobcat gym.
The Lady Cats got off to a slow start as the Lady Vikings jumped to a 24-2 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Lady Cats tried to get back into the game, scoring 14 points in the second quarter, while giving up 17.
The Lady Cats actually won the third quarter by 18-13 margin, but never could overcome the first-quarter surge by Northside.
Northside star Brianna Dixon was a dominant force for the Lady Vikings, finishing with 28 points on 13 field goals and two-of-three from the free-throw line.
Tach Ledet added 13 and Brittany Montgomery had 11 for the Lady Vikings.
The Lady Bobcats were led in scoring by Stacie White with 18 and Shay Vigers with 17.
White was nine of 11 from the free throw line. Aisha Ledet added six points for the Lady Cats.
The Lady Bobcats will try to get back on the winning track on Monday when they face Iowa in a 6 p.m. at the Bobcat gym.
