Lady Jay Field dedicated
The rains washed away St. Edmund’s scheduled softball season opener, but it could not dampen the enthusiasm present at Monday’s dedication of the new Lady Jay Field.
Msgr. Robert Romero reminded the team that athletic competition allows them to develop their talents and skills as well as teaching discipline and life lessons.
St. Edmund principal Sister Joel Miller along with Eunice Mayor Rusty Moody and other city officials joined Romero and the team in the ribbon cutting.
Romero then threw the ceremonial first pitch to Lady Jay catcher Sydney Thibodeaux.
Senior team members are Heather Bieber, Baylee LaFleur and Jami LeBouef.
Junior include Heidi Bieber, Caroline Hunt, Kasey LaFleur, Victoria McGee and Thibodeaux.
Sophomores are Mallory Allain, Ashton Eckholdt, Kylie Hebert, Allison LaFleur, Kathryn Leger, Kelli Richard and Preslie Vidrine.
The freshmen include Madison Cormier, Elissa David, Vivian Dubois, Anna Duplechain, Gabby Fontenot, Maggie Larriviere, Camille Leger, Olivia McDaniel, Abby Miller and Brooke Young.
“Six months of hard work and now it is official,” master of ceremonies Van Reed said. “We have Lady Jay Field.”
Reed also introduced the Memorial Wall on the side of the Lady Jay dugout and recognized the plaque of Dr. Michael Moser.
After decades of playing softball on city-owned fields, the process began last June 19 when a group gathered for a groundbreaking and prayer dedication.
Project director Brad Miller along with volunteer help then constructed the Lady Jay field located next to the football stadium.
The Lady Jays are scheduled to entertain Mamou at 3:30 p.m. today.
