Lady Jay seniors honored

It was wasn’t the normal time of the season that teams honor their seniors, but there was nothing usual about the Lady Jays’ win Tuesday over False River Academy.
St. Edmund honored seniors Jami LeBouef, Baylee Lafleur and Heather Bieber prior to the District 5-1A opener against the Lady Gators.
False River jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Lady Jays exploded for 11 runs in the bottom of the fifth to seal a 16-6 mercy-rule win.
“It was a great day for the seniors,” coach Tad Richard said. “They led the way for the rest of the team.
“It is unbelievable the way we started district with a win,” he said.
FRA’s Kayla Nolen reached on a one-out error to begin the game and scored when Sarah Allen grounded out to short.
Emily Sellars walked, stole second and later scored on a passed ball to push the Lady Gators ahead, 2-0.
St. Edmund (11-2, 1-0) tied the game in the bottom of the second, begun when Kacey Lafleur singled and scored on a triple by LeBouef.
Maggie Larriviere’s single drove in LeBouef as the Lady Jays forced a 2-2 tie.
The Lady Gators (5-8, 0-1) retook the lead in the top of the fourth when Nolen walked and scored on a passed ball.
St. Edmund rallied with three runs in the bottom of the inning to grab a 5-4 advantage.
Baylee Lafleur reached on an error and stole second to move into scoring position.
Sydney Thibodeaux laid down a bunt and the Lady Gator catcher threw the ball past first base which allowed Lafleur and Thibodeaux to race around the bases.
Kasey Lafleur tripled with two outs and scored when LeBouef singled up the middle.
False River responded with three runs in the top of the fourth to retake a 6-5 lead.
Morgan Meche and Mary Webre both singled and Carly Parks walked to load the bases.
Meche and courtesy runner Amber Laborde both scored when Lexie Sellars reached on an error.
Parks scored on a wild pitch to give the Lady Gators a 6-5 lead to set up the wild finish by the Lady Jays.
Heather Bieber singled with one out and Caroline Hunt reached on an error, while Bieber scored on a throwing error as Kasey LaFleur bunted and reached on a fielder’s choice.
LeBouef then blasted her second triple to score Hunt and courtesy runner Allison Lafleur.
Larriviere then sacrificed LeBouef to give the Lady Jays a 9-6 lead.
Kelli Richard doubled to right to keep the inning going and scored on another double by Victoria McGee.
Baylee LaFleur singled up the middle and Thibodeaux followed with a double to drive in McGee and LaFleur.
Heather Bieber reached base on a throwing error which allowed courtesy runner Elissa David to cross to give the Lady Jays a 13-6 advantage.
Heidi Bieber doubled in her sister Heather Bieber and then Kasey LaFeur ripped another double to plate Heidi Bieber.
LeBouef’s third triple of the game sealed the win as courtesy runner Ashley Lafleur scored from second to cap the 16-6 romp.
Kasey Lafleur earned the win as she struck out three, walked five and allowed three earned runs on five hits.
The Lady Jays rapped 16 hits and took advantage of five Lady Gator errors in the game.
Lebouef went 4-for-4 with five RBI, two runs scored and three triples.
Kasey Lafleur helped her own cause as she went 4-for-4 with a RBI.
Thibodeaux went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored, while Baylee Lafleur went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
The Lady Jays take on False River Academy again today at 4 p.m. in New Roads.
