Lady Jays roll past CHPC

With showdowns looming against Westminster Christian Academy, North Central and Basile to close District 5-1A play, it was a must-win night for the Lady Jays Thursday night when Catholic High of Pointe Coupee visited St. Edmund.
No. 29 Lady Jays (9-13, 5-2) remained in the hunt with a 55-36 win over the Lady Hornets (9-8, 2-5).
The game was close early on as St. Edmund outscored CHPC 10-9, led by five points from Gabby Fontenot.
The Lady Jays broke the game open with a 20-6 run in the second quarter, sparked by eight points from Victoria McGee and six points by Maggie Larriviere.
St. Edmund took a 30-15 advantage into the intermission and the Lady Jays forged further ahead with a 13-9 third period run.
McGee scored 10 points in the period and finished with 21 points.
St. Edmund held a 43-24 lead heading into the fourth period where the two team battled to a 12-12 tie.
Fontenot pushed in seven points for the Lady Jays to finish with 12 points.
Maggie Lambert led CHPC with 10 points, including six in the fourth quarter.
CHPC 82, SEH 32
Catholic High of Pointe Coupee opened with a 22-6 explosion as the Hornets rolled to a 82-32 win over the Blue Jays.
CHPC (8-11, 3-4) was led in the first quarter by nine points from Lucas Patin, while Cullen Brown pushed in five points for St. Edmund (3-22, 3-4).
The Hornets kept their domination with a 24-12 second quarter run to grab a 48-18 halftime advantage.
Andrew Lacour pushed in eight points for CHPC in the quarter, while Brown hit six-of-seven free throws for the Jays.
Catholic continued to pour on points with a 23-12 third quarter surge to move ahead, 69-30.
Troy Pichon scored 18 of his game-high 30 points in the third period for the Hornets.
Brown hit two three-pointers and an inside bucket for St. Edmund to finish with 19 points on the night.
CHPC closed the game with a 13-2 fourth quarter run, sparked by five points from Pichon.
Christian Fontenot scored the only points for the Jays in the final period.
St. Edmund will entertain Westminster Tuesday.
