Last look back and a step to the future

The local high school football landscape will look different this fall than the last two seasons.
But before stepping into the new season, take a look back to 2014.
District 5-1A
The Basile Bearcats finished second in District 4-1A and advanced to the Class 1-A quarterfinals before falling to Kentwood (40-18) for the second season in a row.
The Bearcats (10-2, 6-1) will now move to District 5-1A and will join former long-time rival St. Edmund.
The Blue Jays (7-4, 4-0) won the district title and grabbed a 44-31 opening round win over Metairie Park-Country Day.
St. Edmund’s season ended with a 55-35 loss at St. Mary’s in Natchitoches.
Sacred Heart of Ville Platte moved up to Class 2-A, but Westminster Christian Academy returns to the district after a dissapointing 1-10 season.
The Crusaders advanced to the playoffs with just a 34-26 win over Jeanerette as WCA fell to Opelousas Catholic, 49-0 and 49-7 to end the regular season and open the first round.
Catholic High of Pointe Coupee (5-4, 3-1) remains in the district along with False River Academy (3-6, 1-3) and North Central (1-10, 0-4).
The Hurricanes were awarded a Class 1-A playoff spot with their only win coming against Gueydan (20-18).
Block cruised to a 42-0 win over the Hurricanes in the bi-district round.
District 4-2A
The Mamou Green Demons are looking to improve from a 1-9, 0-5 struggle in 2014.
The Kinder Yellow Jackets (14-1, 5-0) rolled the state championship before falling to Many, 22-15.
Vinton (8-5, 2-3) grabbed wins over Delcambre (28-6) and Winnfield (20-14) before ending their season in a 52-28 quarterfinal loss to Sterlington.
Welsh (7-4, 4-1) finished second in district but loss in the first round to Winnfield (41-34).
Lake Arthur (6-6, 2-3) defeated Ferriday (24-12) before a 41-6 loss to Many in the regionals.
DeQuincy finished 4-7, 2-3 with a 37-20 loss to Pickering in the first round.
District 4-3A
Iota struggled through another winless season and the Bulldogs (0-10, 0-5) will have a new head coach as Josh Andrus takes over the program.
Iowa (7-4, 4-1) earned a playoff spot but the Yellow Jackets fell to Donaldsonville (24-13) in the opening round.
St. Louis (6-6, 4-1) shared the district title and grabbed a 31-21 win over Thomas Jefferson in the first round before a 61-21 loss to University Lab in Baton Rouge.
Jennings had a nine -win season but finished 3-2 in district play.
The Bullodgs opened the playoffs with wins over Miller McCoy (31-12) and North Vermilion (21-18) before a 31-7 loss to Amite in the quarterfinals.
South Beauregard also had a good season (9-3, 3-2), opening the playoffs with a 34-14 victory over Avoyelles before a 44-26 loss to Rayville.
Westlake strugggled to a 2-9, 1-4 finish but the Rams were awarded a playoff spot - falling to West Feliciana (34-6).
District 5-3A
The Eunice Bobcats move down to Class 3-A after a 4-6, 2-4 finish in District 4-4A last season.
The Bobcats replace the 3-A state champions Livonia (14-0, 5-0) who moved up to Class 4-A.
Eunice will renew a rivalry with Church Point (10-2, 4-1) who beat Brusly (42-7) in the opening round of the playoffs before a 21-16 loss to North Webster.
Northwest (4-7, 3-2) has already been on the Bobcats’ schedule as Eunice head coach Paul Trosclair grabbed his 200th career win against the Raiders in the opening game of the 2014 season.
The Raiders earned a playoff spot but fell to Kaplan (44-27) in the first round.
Ville Platte, Port Barre and Pine Prairie are all hoping to rebound from 3-7 seasons.
Ville Platte (3-7, 2-3) earned district wins over the Red Devils and Panthers, while the only district win for Port Barre (3-7, 1-4) was a 20-13 victory at Pine Prairie (3-7, 0-5).
