Mamou, Eunice split in season opener

Mamou and Eunice shared wins in the season opener Monday night at the Bobcat gym.
The Lady Demons cruised to a 69-38 win over Eunice, while the Bobcats earned an 62-58 victory over Mamou.
Mamou jumped out to a 23-5 first quarter lead as Darelzray Bellard drilled a trio of three pointers and Ka’Zhana Richard added two more for the Lady Demons.
Richard scored the first nine points of the second period as the Lady Demons pushed ahead, 30-5.
Shania Malveaux hit a three-pointer for the Lady Cats, nut Bellard answered with a trey of her own.
A free throw by Stacie White and a putback from Malveaux helped Eunice close the gap to 37-11 at the break.
Mamou outscored the Lady Cats 24-14 in the third period, but Mia LeJeuene hit a trey and scored in the lane to open the second half of the Lady Cats.
Madison Guillory later scored in the lane for the Lady Cats to close the margin to 45-18.
Richard drained two treys to give the Lady Demons a 57-20 advantage late in the quarter.
Skylar Ardoin hit a three pointer and LeJeune put in two free throws to close the third period before Bellard hit two from the stripe for Mamou.
The Lady Demons took a 61-25 lead in the fourth quarter, but the Lady Cats went on a 13-8 run to finish the game.
White hit a trey with 4:50 left and another at the final buzzer to finish with 12 points.
Mamou’s Richard drilled her sixth trey of the game midway through the final quarter to finish with 27 points.
Bellard also added her fourth three-pointer to finish with 20 points for the Lady Demons.
EHS 62, Mamou 58
The Bobcats started slowly, with Mamou jumping out to an 11-2 lead midway through the opening quarter. But the Cats outscored the Demons by a 9-2 margin over the remainder of the quarter to trail by only a 13-11 margin, thanks to three field goals by Mitchell Cormier and five points by Kevin Williams.
The Cats and the Demons traded field goals early in the second quarter before the Demons pulled away late in the quarter to take a 28-22 lead.
Lilpaul Williams hit two three-point field goals to lead the Demons during the quarter.
The Bobcats closed the gap quickly in the third quarter, with Cormier, Williams, and Malik Poullard leading the way as the Cats took their first lead at 3:50 left in the third quarter by a 33-32 margin.
Mamou’s Trey Wilson made two free throws to briefly give the Demons a 34-33 lead, but the Bobcats went on a 15-8 run to end the quarter with a 48-40 lead.
The Green Demons cut the Bobcat lead to 50-45 with a surge in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter, but the Cats increased their lead to 57-47 with three minutes left in the game.
The Demons wouldn’t go away, however, as Williams led a charge with two baskets from beyond the 3-point arc to cut the lead to 59-57 with 48 seconds left on the clock.
Cormier drove for a basket to make it 61-57 and Dylan Miller added a free throw to make it 62-57 with nine seconds left on the clock. Mamou’s Williams added a late free throw to make the final 62-58.
Kevin Williams led the Bobcats in scoring with 22 points, while Cormier added 18 points on nine field goals.
Malik Poullard also hit double figures for the Cats with 12 points.
Miller added three points and Carlin Vigers had two to round out the scoring for the Bobcats.
Russell Edwards led the scoring for Mamou with 16 points. Lilpaul Williams had 13 points and Luke Thomas added 10. Trey Wilson chipped in with six points.
