Nine local athletes earn Academic All-State honors

Parents and coaches teach that once your athletic career is finished, your education will remain.
Nine Eunice High and St. Edmund seniors proved they could excel in both the classroom and ballfield by earning LHSAA Academic All-State honors in baseball or softball.
St. Edmund’s Jada Fontenot and Margaret Vidrine earned Composite Academic All-State honors with a perfect 4.00 GPA.
Maddie Andrus (3.76) and Constance Fontenot (3.76) also earned Academic All-State recognition.
Eunice High’s Kaliee Lyons (3.95), Sadie West (3.81) and Kate McLemore (3.58) were named to the Class 4-A Academic All-State list.
In baseball, Eunice High’s Jacob Sonnier (3.96) was joined by St. Edmund’s Christian Walker (3.54) in the Academic All-State list.
To earn Composite Team honors, a student-athlete’s six-semester GPA must be one of the 18 highest in all seven classifications.
In order to be selected to the All-Academic Team, the student-athlete must be a senior, have participated in the sport for at least two years, and achieved a six-semester cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5 or better based on a 4.0 scale.
