North Central rolls in sweep

North Central continued its dominance of District 5-1A with a sweep over St. Edmund on Tuesday night.
The Lady Hurricanes (19-3, 2-0) exploded for a 22-3 first quarter lead and cruised to a 82-21 win over the Lady Jays (1-12, 1-1).
North Central opened with a 15-0 surge before Payton Crowell hit a jumper for the Lady Jays.
Abby Miller later hit a free throw, but the Lady Canes closed the period with a buzzer beater and a 19-point advantage.
North Central continued to control the game, but a free throw by Jami LeBouef, a jumper by Allison LaFleur and a baseline drive by Elissa David closed the gap to 34-8 midway through the period.
Another free throw by LeBouef was the final Lady Jay score of the quarter as North Central went on a 17-0 run to take a 51-9 lead into the locker room.
The Lady Canes opened the third period with a 8-0 run before LeBouef scored from the baseline and Camille Leger scored in the lane.
North Central closed the quarter with a 8-2 run before Allison LaFleur hit two free throws in the final seconds to close the margin to 70-17.
Leger scored four points early in the fourth quarter for the Lady Jays before North Central finished the game with a 8-0 run to seal the one-sided win.
Leger finished with six points, while LaFleur and LeBouef added four points each.
Miller scored three and Crowell chipped in two points.
Jazlyn Robertson led North Central with 26 points, while Sydney Martin contributed 22 points.
Quanique Joseph scored 15 points for the Lady Canes.

NCHS 93, St. Ed 36
The North Central Hurricanes (7-11, 2-0) completed the sweep with a 93-36 win over St. Edmund (2-12, 0-2).
The opening minute was close as Blue Jay John Guillory scored in the lane to keep St. Edmund within two points.
The Hurricanes then went on a 14-0 run sparked by treys from Kenya Randall and Roderick Smith.
The Blue Jays rallied with three points from William Chachere and a putback from Phillippe Aguillard to close the gap to 18-7.
The Canes responded with a 5-0 run including a trey at the buzzer by Kentrell Davenport for a 23-7 North Central lead.
The Canes opened the second period with an 11-0 run before Drew Brown hit a trey for the Blue Jays.
A 13-0 North Central surge was stopped by a lay-up from Guillory with 2:10 left in the period.
Buckets from Chachere and Cullen Brown closed the Hurricanes’ lead to 52-16 at the break.
Cullen Brown scored in the lane for the Jays early in the third quarter, but the Hurricanes answered with a 7-0 run to push ahead, 59-18.
A put-back by Chachere was followed by a 8-0 North Central run.
Cullen Brown scored in the lane and Guillory later added two free throws to close the Canes’ lead to 69-24 as the game moved to the final period.
North Central continued its barrage with a 11-0 run to open the fourth quarter before Drew Brown scored on the lane with 6:17 left.
Aguillard scored underneath to begin a 10-10 battle to finish the game.
Two buckets from Jacque Richard and three points from Cullen Brown helped the Jays finish strong to close the gap to 93-36.
Cullen Brown finished with 11 points, while Chachere chipped in seven points.
Guillory finished with seven points, while Aguillard added five points and Richard had four points.
Last Friday, the Jays fell 76-53 in their District 5-1A opener at Catholic High of Pointe Coupee.
Guillory had 16 points, while Cullen Brown finished with 13 points and Alex Hunt added 11 points.
St. Edmund travels to Plainview for an non-district game on Friday.
