North Central sweeps Jays
LEBEAU – North Central kept its grip on the District 5-1A lead with a sweep over St. Edmund Tuesday.
The No. 2 Lady Hurricanes grabbed a 81-44 win over the Lady Jays, while the North Central boys cruised to a 84-26 victory over St. Edmund.
The Lady Hurricanes (18-2, 4-0) jumped out to a 26-9 first quarter advantage, sparked by eight points from Jada Duncantell and seven more by Latrauchai Tyler.
St. Edmund battled back in the second period, aided by eight points from Elissa David as the Lady Jays closed the gap to 40-22 at the break.
The two teams fought in the third period as North Central outscored St. Edmund 14-11 to forge ahead, 54-33.
The Lady Canes’ Quaniqua Joseph pushed in 12 points in the period, while Sydney Thibodeaux led the Lady Jays with four points.
North Central sealed the win with a 27-11 surge in the fourth quarter, led by 10 points from Duncantell and six points from Joseph.
The Lady Jays were led by four points from David, who finished with 15 points, three assists, three rebounds and two forced turnovers.
Thibodeaux finished with eight points, 10 rebounds, six assists and three steals.
Duncantell finished with 21 points, while Joseph added 20 points and Tyler chipped in 16 points.
St. Edmund entertains Basile Friday.
NC 84, St. Ed’s 44
The game was never in doubt as North Central opened with a 17-6 run and pushed ahead 45-13 at intermission.
Cullen Brown led the Jays with four points in the first quarter, while John Ross Guillory added six points in the second period.
North Central was led in the second quarter by Roderick Smith’s 11 points.
The Hurricanes extended the margin to 73-18 with a 28-5 run to open the second half.
A trey by Alex Dupre and a bucket by Brown acounted for all the Blue Jays’ points in the period.
Ten different players scored for North Central in the third frame.
The Blue Jays finished the game with eight points in the fourth quarter as Guillory had six points to cap a 14-point night.
Brown added another bucket to finish with eight points.
Smith led North Central with 18 points, whiule Vondrick Jimmerson chipped in 11 points and Nikembe Johnson finished with 10 points.
