Pioneers shut out Bobcats, 3-0

CROWLEY – The Notre Dame Pioneers took advantage of two early runs to claim a 3-0 victory over the Eunice Bobcats in Acadiana Metro League baseball here Monday evening at Miller Stadium.
The Pioneers scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning off Eunice starting pitcher Caleb Taylor.
Taylor walked the first two batters he faced. After a single loaded the bases, Sam Hoffpauir grounded into a force out at third base to push across a run.
The second run scored later on a ground out before Taylor retired the side.
Chase McBride, the Crowley starter, issued three walks in two innings of work, but the Cats were unable to score.
The Cats would not get their first hit until the fourth inning when Brandon Martel drove a single into right field with two out.
But Martel was stranded.
The Pioneers added an unearned run in the third to go up 3-0.
Hoffpauir doubled with two out and later scored on an error against Martel.
Martel allowed three hits and the unearned run, while walking none and striking out none in two innings.
Christian Taylor took the mound for the Cats in the sixth inning, giving up one hit and no runs. He did not walk or strikeout a batter.
Caleb Taylor allowed just one hit in his three innings of work, walking two and striking out one.
The Cats threatened in the top of the seventh with two out.
Notre Dame closer Pete Brown hit Hayden West and Gunner Fontenot singled to bring the tying run to the plate.
But Brown managed to strikeout Logan Manuel to end the game.
The Cats concluded the summer season on Wednesday at home against the Rayne Wolves.
