Rayne earns sweep
RAYNE – The Eunice High Lady Bobcats ended their season Monday night by falling to the Rayne High Wolves by a 93-20 margin in District 4-4A action.
Rayne, 22-6 overall and 11-1 in district play, controlled the action from the opening tip, employing defensive pressure against a short-handed Lady Bobcat team. The Lady Wolves took leads of 27-5 and 27-6 in the first two quarters to build an insurmountable halftime lead of 54-11.
The Lady Wolves continued their defensive pressure in the third quarter, using a 14-5 advantage to enjoy a 68-16 lead heading into the fourth quarter. The Lady Wolves completed the game with a 25-4 fourth quarter for the win.
Charlesha Dugas led the Rayne girls in scoring with 20 points. Whitley Larry added 14 points.
Hali Jack scored 11 points to lead the Lady Cats. Alicia Ceasar had four and Reiah Robinson had three for the Lady Cats. Alexia Jason scored the remaining two points.
The Lady Bobcats closed out the season with an overall record of 7-17 and a district mark of 3-9.
Rayne 48, Eunice 36
The Eunice High Bobcats saw a halftime lead disappear in the third quarter as the Rayne High Wolves rallied for a 48-36 victory Monday night in 4-4A play.
The two teams battled pretty much on even terms in the first half, with Rayne holding an 8-7 advantage at the end of the first quarter. The Bobcats outscored the Wolves by a 12-10 margin to enjoy a 19-18 halftime lead.
The third quarter turned into a nightmare for the Bobcats as the Wolves dominated the action with a 16-2 advantage to build a 34-21 lead. The Cats recovered a bit in the fourth quarter to outscore the Wolves 15-14, but the damage done in the third quarter couldn’t be overcome.
Drakkar Broussard, who scored eight points to lead the Wolves in the decisive third quarter, finished as top scorer with 18 points. Charles Jones hit the double-figure mark in scoring with 11 points for the Wolves.
Halen Jack topped the Bobcats in scoring with nine points. Kevin Williams, Brandon Ndubueze, and Malik Poullard scored six points apiece for the Bobcats.
The Bobcats will celebrate senior night Monday when they host Crowley in their final home game of the season.
The Cats will close out the season with a trip to face the Beau Chene Gators on February 20.
