St. Edmund holds athletic banquet
Louisiana College head football coach Dennis Dunn gave the group Five Axioms for Success and used his championship run at Evangel Christian to nail down his points.
His five premises for success were to: set noble goals, have a work ethic, keep your eyes focused on your goal, play your song or reach your destiny and remember that life is not about you - but service to others.
Dunn reflected on the 1996 championship run as Evangel went 15-0 and captured the Class 3-A state title with a win over St. James to begin the run as the program had three more undefeated seasons and three more trophies.
Dunn said the theme for the program in 1996 was “11” as he wanted his team to give more than just a 10.
He talked about being a “then some kind of person,” a player who would give more than was expected.
Dunn encouraged the group of athletes to go the second mile as they reach for their goals and not let any one distract them along the journey.
Awards were then given out for football and their support staff of trainers, film crew and statisticians. The dance team, drummers and cheerleaders were also recognized.
Awards were also given for cross country, girls and boys basketball, golf, rodeo, tennis, track, baseball and softball.
The top award of the night went to Heather Bieber and Ross LaFleur as Miss and Mr. Blue Jay - St. Edmund’s athletes of the year.
The Joe Nagata Award was given to Alex Hunt.
The Jerry Hoffpauir Memorial Award was presented to Jami LeBouef and Drew Brown.
