St. Edmund opens track season
Competition usually brings out the best in an athlete.
At times, St. Edmund head track coach Michael Yachera has had to battle with other spring sports for his athletes.
This was the case on Monday when many of his girls were playing softball and unavailable for the first meet of the spring.
The Basile Lady Bearcats won the Blue Jay Invitational with 108 points, followed by Ascension Episcopal (95.5), Elton (91), Sacred Heart of Ville Platte (60.5), Pine Prairie (60), St. Edmund (58), Mamou (38) and Glemora (22).
Lady Jay Mallory Allain won the shot put with a throw of 28-6.
Abby Brown won the girls pole vault at 8-0.
Blaire Allain finished second in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 7:01.44.
Allain also grabbed third place in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 15:01.
Gabbie Heinen finished third in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 1:00.89.
Basile’s Rylie James finished won the long jump (15-3), while Sacred Heart’s Mo Parks was third (14-1).
James finished second in the triple jump (30-10) ahead of Parks (29-10).
Lady Bearcat Rhegan Ortego won the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.87, while Mamou’s Jaslyn Thomas finished third (13.05).
Basile’s Nadashia Adams and Sacred Heart’s Whitney Ttate finished tied for second in the high jump at 4-4.
Basile’s McKayla Adams was second in the 800-meter run (2:58), ahead of Mamou’s Tia Gallow (3;02).
Lady Bearcat Carley Bazinet was third in the 2100-meter dash (29.31), Katherine Giles finished third in the pole vault at 6-6 and Caityln Deshotel was third in the shot put (23-10).
Sacred Heart’s Whitney Tate won the 400-meter dash (1:05.90), while Mamou’s Kamaneisha Wilson was third (1:10).
Lady Trjan Cartherine Poche won the javelin competition with a toss of 89-10, ahead of team mate Parks (86-9) and Pine Prairie’s Lacey Foreman (79-5).
Sacred Heart’s Olivia Vollman was third in the 1,600 meter run (7:08.50).
Pine Prairie’s Lauren Paul won the discus with a toss of 76-3, while Lady Panther Taylor Deville was second in the 200-meter dash (28.66).
Basile won the girls’ 4x100-meter relay with a finish of 55.84, while Pine Prairie finished second (54.85).
The Lady Bearcats also won the 4x200-meter relay with a a time of 1:53.53 as Pine Prairie was third (157.46).
Mamou won the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 5:11.88, ahead of Basile (5:20.13) and Pine Prairie (5:21.50).
Ascension Episcopal won the boys competition with 139 points, followed by St. Edmund (87), Elton (75), Basile (65), Mamou (46.5), Pine Prairire (46), Sacred Heart (37), North Central (31) and Glemora (22.5).
St. Edmund’s Cullen Brown won both the 110-meter hurdles (17.53) and 300-meter hurdles (42.94).
John Ross Guillory finished second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.47.
Gus Brown finished third in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 12:41.22.
Jacque Richard finished second in the shot put with a toss of 40-7.
John Hull finished third in both the high jump (5-4) and the triple jump (37-10).
Gibson Lafleur finished third in the long jump at 19-9.
Jacques Soileau was third in the pole vault with a height of 8-6.
Basile’s Jared Belle won the 200-meter dash (23.75) and RaShawn Murphy finished second in the triple jump with a leap of 38-2.
Andre Reed finished third in the 400-meter run (58.03), Brett Ledoux finished third in the 110-meter hurdles (19.06), while the Bearcats won the 4x400-meter relay (4:00.42) and finished second in the 4x100-meter relay (46.52).
Bearcat Gavin Christ finished second in the pole vault at 9-0.
Mamou’s Jacobe Randall finished second in both the 1,600-meter run (5:29.34) and the 3,200-meter run (11:33.25).
Pine Prairie’s Dylan Doucet won the javelin with a toss of 169-6, ahead of Sacred Heart’s Seth Shipp (147-7).
Pine Prairie’s Andrew Fontenot won the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.72 and finished third in the 300-meter hurdles (45.06), while the Panthers finished third in the 4x400 meter relay (4:05.41).
Sacred Heart finished third in the 4x200-meter relay (1:38.78).
